Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to analyze factors related to heavy alcohol use among students aged 10 to 18 in 27 Brazilian cities, using data from 2004 collected via a self-report questionnaire from over 48,000 students.
  • - Results indicated that 8.9% of students reported heavy drinking, with poorer relationships with both parents being linked to increased alcohol use, while practicing a religion showed a protective effect.
  • - The findings suggest that fostering better family relationships and encouraging religious practices could help reduce alcohol abuse among students, although other factors like sports participation and mothers being perceived as 'liberal' did not show significant connections.
