Background: In recent years, health care has undergone a rapid and unprecedented digital transformation. In many fields of specialty care, such as rheumatology, this shift is driven by the growing number of patients and limited resources, leading to increased use of digital health technologies (DHTs) to maintain high-quality clinical care. Previous studies examined user acceptance of individual DHTs in rheumatology, such as telemedicine, video consultations, and mHealth.

In pharmacoepidemiology, robust data are needed to judge the impact of drug treatment on pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes and breast-fed infants. As pregnant and breastfeeding women are usually excluded from randomised clinical trials, observational studies are required. One of those data sources are pregnancy registers specifically developed to focus on certain diseases or disease groups.

Background: The complex nature of rheumatic diseases poses considerable challenges for clinicians when developing individualized treatment plans. Large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT could enable treatment decision support.

Objective: To compare treatment plans generated by ChatGPT-3.

Article Synopsis
  • A workforce shortage and rising cases of rheumatic diseases are putting pressure on outpatient care, prompting exploration of digital services to ease these challenges.
  • A study involving interviews with healthcare professionals in German rheumatology clinics reveals three main themes: the digital transformation of care, its impact on healthcare delivery, and the key factors for successful digitalization.
  • Findings show that while digital tools can enhance patient care efficiency and communication, they may also increase healthcare professionals' workloads due to higher patient accessibility and demand for services.

Objectives: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is one of the most common forms of vasculitis. There is an abundance of studies which are conducted in a randomised controlled trial setting but limited with respect to cohort size and follow-up time. GeVas is the first large-scale registry for vasculitides in German-speaking countries that enables to evaluate this rare disease.

Objectives: Prospective long-term observational data on the disease course of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) were missing in Germany to date. Therefore, the Joint Vasculitis Registry in German-speaking countries (GeVas) has been established to follow the course of patients with AAV. The aim of this study is to present baseline data of patients with newly diagnosed and relapsing AAV enrolled in the GeVas registry.

Introduction: In January 2013, France launched a military operation in Mali, which ended in August 2022. This study aimed to analyse the global activity performed by a surgical team within the role 2 medical treatment facility (MTF) deployed in Gao during this period, in order to adapt medical battlefield support and combat casualty care teaching.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted using the French surgical database OpEX (French Military Health Service) from January 2013 to August 2022.

Long duration spaceflights to the Moon or Mars are at risk for emergency medical events. Managing a hypoxemic distress and performing an advanced airway procedure such as oro-tracheal intubation may be complicated under weightlessness due to ergonomic constraints. An emergency free-floating intubation would be dangerous because of high failure rates due to stabilization issues that prohibits its implementation in a space environment.

Background: Identifying patients at risk of secondary neurologic deterioration (SND) after moderate traumatic brain injury (moTBI) is a challenge, as such patients will need specific care. No simple scoring system has been evaluated to date. This study aimed to determine clinical and radiological factors associated with SND after moTBI and to propose a triage score.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic led to transformations in healthcare infrastructures and increased use of (innovative) telemedicine (TM) tools. Comparison of the use of video consultation (VC) in rheumatology in the pre-pandemic period and during the pandemic might allow for evaluating this new form of consultancy in healthcare due to changing conditions and possibilities.

Materials And Methods: Cross-sectional nationwide online survey among German rheumatologists and rheumatologists in training between March and May 2021 promoted by newsletters and Twitter posts.

There are currently no data regarding characteristics of critically ill patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variant of concern (VOC) 20H/501Y.V2. We therefore aimed to describe changes of characteristics in critically ill patients with Covid-19 between the first and the second wave when viral genome sequencing indicated that VOC was largely dominant in Mayotte Island (Indian Ocean).

  • A study was conducted to compare the accuracy of an AI symptom checker (Ada) with physicians in diagnosing inflammatory rheumatic diseases (IRD) using real-world patient scenarios.
  • * The study involved 33 experienced German-speaking rheumatologists who evaluated 20 patient vignettes, and Ada outperformed the physicians in identifying IRD, with accuracy rates of 70% compared to 54%.
  • * Findings suggest that AI tools like Ada could effectively aid in early diagnosis and emphasize the need for comprehensive patient information to improve diagnostic accuracy.*
