One of the components in the vaccine formulation is tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (tromethamine, TRIS), a buffering agent. TRIS is a commonly used excipient in various approved parenteral medicinal products, including the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines produced by Pfizer/BioNtech and Moderna.
