Article Synopsis
  • - The study presents a rare case of double trisomy (extra chromosomes 10 and 20) in a pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage at 11 weeks and 6 days due to anembryonic development.
  • - An ultrasound at 9 weeks indicated problems, leading to the decision for a dilation and curettage procedure to terminate the pregnancy.
  • - Chromosome microarray analysis confirmed the presence of the double trisomy, making it the first documented instance of this condition in a product of conception, highlighting the utility of genetic testing in understanding chromosomal abnormalities.

Testicular cancer is the most common malignancy in men 20-40 years old and most commonly metastasizes to the lung, liver, and brain. Choroidal metastasis from testicular cancer is exceedingly rare, and only few cases have been described in the literature. We report a patient who presented with painful unilateral vision loss as the initial presenting symptom of metastatic testicular germ cell tumor (GCT).

Background: Adolescents with severe obesity achieve superior health outcomes following metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) than medical treatment alone. Surgery results in significant and sustained decrease in BMI and reduces associated comorbidity. We characterized the changing demographics of adolescents who had MBS over a 15-year time period.

Article Synopsis
  • 5-Aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) porphyria (ADP) is an extremely rare autosomal recessive condition with only eight cases documented, all in males, and is poorly understood due to limited follow-up and treatment data.
  • The sixth reported ADP patient, a 31-year-old male from the Americas, showed elevated mRNA for the enzyme 5-aminolevulinic acid synthase-1 (ALAS1), but did not have the modifying mutation found in other porphyrias.
  • Treatment with intravenous hemin has been effective in most cases, highlighting the liver's key role in the production of excess 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA

Objective: Pruritus is a prevalent skin condition in end-stage renal disease patients. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce pruritus in hemodialysis patients. Our objective was to assess the effect of 3 g/day omega-3 supplementation on pruritus among continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients.

Purpose: To evaluate whether the extent of restricted diffusion and 2-deoxy-2-[F] fluoro-D-glucose ([F]FDG) uptake of pediatric rhabdomyosarcomas (RMS) on positron emission tomography (PET)/magnetic resonance (MR) images provides prognostic information.

Procedure: In a retrospective, IRB-approved study, we evaluated [F]FDG PET/CT and diffusion-weighted (DW) MR imaging studies of 21 children and adolescents (age 1-20 years) with RMS of the head and neck. [F]FDG PET and DW MR scans at the time of the initial tumor diagnosis were fused using MIM software.
