Objective: Mechanistic studies are needed to understand why depressive symptoms are associated with poorer physical health. The objective of this study was to examine whether behavioural, cognitive and physiological factors mediated an association between depressive symptoms, measured in early adulthood, and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and their impact, a composite variable measured in mid-life adulthood, among women in the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults study, conducted in four regions of the United States.
Design: Prospective cohort study.
Important questions remain about the sources of transmission of pneumococcus to older adults in the community. This is critical for understanding the potential effects of using pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) in children and older adults. For non-institutionalized individuals, we hypothesized that the most likely source of adult-to-adult transmission is within the household.

Methods: A NP swab sample was collected among four annual cohorts of healthy children at routine well-child visits. was identified by culture, optochin sensitivity and bile solubility, serotypes determined by latex agglutination and Quellung, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing performed using E-test strips.
Electoral misinformation, where citizens believe false or misleading claims about the electoral process and electoral institutions-sometimes actively and strategically spread by political actors-is a challenge to public confidence in elections specifically and democracy more broadly. In this article, we analyze a combination of 42 million clicks in links and apps from behavioral tracking data of 2,200 internet users and a four-wave panel survey to investigate how different kinds of online news and media use relate to beliefs in electoral misinformation during a contentious political period-the 2022 Brazilian presidential elections. We find that, controlling for other factors, using news from legacy news media is associated with belief in fewer claims of electoral misinformation over time.

While pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) prevent carriage of vaccine-serotype pneumococci, their potential impact on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related outcomes remains poorly understood in populations with prevalent immunity against SARS-CoV-2.
Methods: We undertook a retrospective cohort study of adults aged ≥65 years in the Kaiser Permanente Southern California healthcare system who had received ≥2 COVID-19 vaccine doses, comparing risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2022 among recipients and nonrecipients of 13-valent PCV (PCV13) employing multiple strategies to mitigate bias from differential test-seeking behavior.
Objective: The aim of this study was to examine whether different aspects of women's cognitive function are associated with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and their impact.
Methods: In 2010-2011, women aged 42 to 57 years in the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults study completed different tests of cognitive function, including the Digit Symbol Substitution Test, Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test, and Stroop test. Two years later, data on LUTS and their impact were collected.
Aim: The US Food and Drug Administration approved the 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV20) to prevent pneumococcal disease. In the context of routine PCV20 vaccination, we evaluated the cost-effectiveness and public health and economic impact of a PCV20 catch-up program and estimated the number of antibiotic prescriptions and antibiotic-resistant infections averted.
Materials And Methods: A population-based, multi-cohort, decision-analytic Markov model was developed using parameters consistent with previous PCV20 cost-effectiveness analyses.
Introduction: A 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV20) was recently recommended for use among US children. We evaluated the cost-effectiveness of PCV20 among children aged 6 years with chronic medical conditions (CMC+) and children aged 6 years with immunocompromising conditions (IC) versus one and two doses of 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23), respectively.
Methods: A probabilistic model was employed to depict 10-year risk of clinical outcomes and economic costs of pneumococcal disease, reduction in life years from premature death, and expected impact of vaccination among one cohort of children with CMC+ and IC aged 6 years.
Background: As of June 2023, two pneumococcal conjugate vaccines, 20- (PCV20) and 15- (PCV15) valent formulations, are recommended for US infants under a 3 + 1 schedule. This study evaluated the health and economic impact of vaccinating US infants with a new expanded valency PCV20 formulation.
Methods: A population-based, multi cohort, decision-analytic Markov model was developed to estimate the public health impact and cost-effectiveness of PCV20 from both societal and healthcare system perspectives over 10 years.
Objective: This study examines whether discriminatory experiences are associated with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and their impact among 972 women in the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) cohort study, which recruited participants from 4 cities in the United States.
Method: Exposure to discrimination was assessed 3 times (1992-93, 2000-01, 2010-11) and averaged across assessments. Participants separately reported whether they experienced discrimination on the basis of their gender, race or color, and socioeconomic position or social class.
Objectives: Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are common among employed women. An underexplored topic is whether characteristics of women's occupations may influence LUTS. The present study examined whether job strain and its individual components (psychological demands, decision latitude) were associated with greater LUTS and their impact and whether, compared to managerial and professional occupations, occupations characterized by manual labor, sales, service, nursing, and teaching were associated with greater LUTS and their impact.

Objective: This study aimed to examine (1) whether women in the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adult Study with higher levels of financial strain, assessed at 7 time points across 25 years beginning in 1985-1986, were more likely to report lower urinary tract symptoms and impact after the 2010-2011 financial strain assessment and (2) whether healthcare access and comorbidities mediated potential associations.
Study Design: This prospective cohort study recruited Black and White participants aged 18 to 30 years at baseline (1985-1986) from the populations of 4 US cities.
Background: Infections with respiratory viruses [e.g. influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)] can increase the risk of severe pneumococcal infections.

We aimed to assess the potential impact of these recommendations on the burden of lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) among adults.
Methods: We estimated the incidence of LRTI cases and associated hospital admissions among enrollees of Kaiser Permanente Southern California from 2016 through 2019.
Objective: The aim of the study is to examine the association between depressive symptoms and subsequent lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and impact (a composite outcome) among women (N = 1,119) from the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults study.
Methods: The Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D) was administered in 1990-1991 and every 5 years through 2010-2011. In 2012-2013, LUTS and impact data were collected for the first time.
This study utilizes Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) data to examine whether women's perceived emotional support and interpersonal stressors are associated with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and their impact on quality of life. Emotional support was assessed at baseline/year 0 (1985-86), year 2 (1987-88), year 15 (2000-01), and year 20 (2005-06); interpersonal stressors were assessed at years 15 and 20. In 2012-13, LUTS and impact were assessed.

Materials And Methods: In 2000-2001, frequency of adverse childhood experiences exposure was retrospectively assessed. In 2000-2001, 2005-2006, and 2010-2011, extensiveness of social networks was assessed; scores were averaged.
Introduction: A 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) was licensed to protect against emerging Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes. Healthcare services, including routine childhood immunizations, were disrupted as a result of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study compared PCV13 routine vaccination completion and adherence among US infants before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and the relationship between primary and booster dose completion and adherence.

However, there remains clinical and economic burden due to PD caused by serotypes not included in the current 13-valent PCV (PCV13) formulation. To address this unmet need, 15-valent PCV (PCV15) and 20-valent PCV (PCV20), containing additional serotypes to PCV13, were recently approved in the US for adults and are anticipated for pediatrics in the near future.
