Article Synopsis
  • - Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant health issue affecting both humans and pets, particularly in Africa, where a study focused on dogs showed alarming resistance patterns to common antibiotics.
  • - A meta-analysis examined 234 articles and identified that 18 met the criteria, revealing high resistance rates in Escherichia coli (98%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (92%), and Salmonella spp. (53%), while Staphylococcus aureus had a lower resistance rate (18%).
  • - The findings emphasize the urgent need for alternative treatments to replace ineffective antibiotics and suggest that more comprehensive studies are needed to understand the full extent of AMR in dogs.
