We describe a 55-year-old man returning from the Philippines infected with a hookworm, the novel bacterium Laribacter hongkongensis, and a Blastocystis hominis and presenting with both gastrointestinal and neurological symptoms. The high eosinophilia caused by the hookworm infection resulted in both gastrointestinal and neurological symptoms, resembling a hypereosinophilic syndrome.

Background: Impaired bed mobility (IBM) may be an important reason for the high prevalence of sleep insomnia in Parkinson disease (PD). Here we assessed the influence of subjectively IBM on both subjective and objective sleep parameters in insomnia PD patients with (PD+IBM) and without (PD-IBM) concerns of IBM and controls with primary insomnia.

Methods: We included 44 PD patients with sleep initiation or maintenance concerns and 44 control subjects with primary insomnia.

Objectives: To investigate whether T-cell activation and exhaustion is linked to HCV- and HIV disease parameters in HIV/HCV infected individuals, we studied T-cell characteristics in HIV/HCV coinfected patients and controls.

Methods: 14 HIV/HCV coinfected, 19 HCV monoinfected, 10 HIV monoinfected patients and 15 healthy controls were included in this cross-sectional study. Performance of a lab-scale bio-electrochemical assisted septic tank for the anaerobic treatment of black water.

Septic tanks are used for the removal of organic particulates in wastewaters by physical accumulation instead of through the biological production of biogas. Improved biogas production in septic tanks is crucial to increase the potential of this system for both energy generation and organic matter removal. In this study, the effect on the biogas production and biogas quality of coupling a 20 L lab-scale septic tank with a microbial electrolysis cell (MEC) was investigated and compared with a standard septic tank.

Quality of care for cancer patients on home parenteral nutrition: development of key interventions and outcome indicators using a two-round Delphi approach.

Purpose: Clear recommendations on how to guide patients with cancer on home parenteral nutrition (HPN) are lacking as the use of HPN in this population remains a controversial issue. Preventive versus "on-demand" nutritional support during antiviral treatment for hepatitis C: a randomized controlled trial.

Background & Aims: Although antiviral treatment for hepatitis C (HCV) is highly effective, side effects often occur, including weight loss, digestive symptoms, and impaired quality of life. We aimed at exploring the beneficial effects of preventive nutritional support.

Methods: In a randomized controlled trial, 53 HCV patients were allocated to "on demand" support (n=26: nutritional intervention if weight loss >5%) or preventive support (n=27: regular dietary advice plus energy- and protein-rich evening snack).

We analysed a group of 182 children with different epilepsy syndromes as well as children with IEDs without observed seizures [corrected], with 24-h ambulatory EEG and cognitive tests.
