The purpose of this study was to assess the morphological changes in the parotid gland when injected with a single dose of PLGA microparticles.

Eco-friendly synthesis and antiproliferative evaluation of some oxygen substituted diaryl ketones.

A broad variety of oxygen-substituted diaryl ketones has been synthesized by solar energy-induced Friedel Crafts acylations of 1,4-benzo- and 1,4-naphthoquinones with benzaldehydes. The in vitro antiproliferative properties of the photoproducts were assessed on prostate (DU-145), bladder (T24) and breast (MCF7) human-derived tumor cell lines and compared to non-tumor mouse fibroblasts (Balb/3T3). Among the tested compounds, it was found that those containing a 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl A-ring, such as 12 and 22 are more active on DU-145, with EC50 values of 1.

Functional foods and nutraceuticals in a market of bolivian immigrants in Buenos Aires (Argentina).

This paper presents the results of a research in urban ethnobotany, conducted in a market of Bolivian immigrants in the neighborhood of Liniers, Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (Argentina). Functional foods and nutraceuticals belonging to 50 species of 18 families, its products, and uses were recorded. Some products are exclusive from the Bolivian community; others are frequent within the community, but they are also available in the general commercial circuit; they are introduced into it, generally, through shops called dietéticas ("health-food stores"), where products associated with the maintenance of health are sold.

Current transplant success allows recipients with previous contraindications to transplant to have access to this procedure with more frequency and safety. The concept of high-risk patient has changed since the first stages of transplantation. In the first studies, the high-risk concept was based on probability of early graft failure or on a patient's clinical condition to cope with high perioperatory morbimortality.

Pulmonary blood flow generates cardiogenic oscillations.

Cardiogenic oscillations are small waves produced by heartbeats, which are superimposed on the pressure and flow signals at the airway opening. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of the two main factors believed to generate these oscillations: (1) contact between heart and lungs and (2) pulmonary blood flow. We studied 15 heart surgery patients on cardiopulmonary bypass so both factors could be manipulated independently.
