Article Synopsis
  • - Anthocyanins (ACNs) are natural compounds found in fruits that give them red to blue colors, with cyanidin-3-glucoside (Cy3G) being a common type; however, its levels in raspberries and strawberries are relatively low.
  • - Cy3G has a strong ability to scavenge certain free radicals and undergoes various metabolic transformations in the body, which leads to low absorption rates and the production of key metabolites like protocatechuic acid.
  • - Research shows that Cy3G has several health benefits, such as protecting DNA, reducing inflammation, and potentially lowering the risk of chronic diseases like cardiovascular issues and type 2 diabetes through mechanisms like radical scavenging and enzyme inhibition.

A microbial bioelectrochemical reactor (BER) was employed for the degradation of azo dyes without the use of an external electron donor, using activated carbon (GAC) as a redox mediator. Contribution of pH values, open circuit potential (OCP), dye concentration and applied current were individually studied. A batch system and an upflow fixed bed bioreactor were built for analyzing the effect of the applied current on biodegradation of the azo dye Reactive Red 272.
