Nutrition impact symptoms in a population cohort of head and neck cancer patients: multivariate regression analysis of symptoms on oral intake, weight loss and survival.

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of 17 symptoms on reduced dietary intake, weight loss, and survival of patients with Head and Neck Cancer (HNC).

Methods: 635 Consecutive patients were screened (Patient- Generated Subjective Global Assessment©, Head and Neck Symptom Checklist©) before radiation and/or chemotherapy. Multivariate regression analyses were used to relate severity of symptoms to reduced dietary intake and weight loss and identify prognostic individual symptoms impact on dietary intake.

The role of intestinal microbiota in development of irinotecan toxicity and in toxicity reduction through dietary fibres in rats.

CPT-11 is a drug used as chemotherapy for colorectal cancer. CPT-11 causes toxic side-effects in patients. CPT-11 toxicity has been attributed to the activity of intestinal microbiota, however, intestinal microbiota may also have protective effects in CP!-11 chemotherapy.

Combination of estrogen and antipsychotics in the treatment of women with chronic schizophrenia: a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial.

Introduction: Gender differences in schizophrenia include the age of onset, better treatment response, a better outcome, and the peak of the disease in postmenopausal women. Some evidence indicates that these variations are due to estrogen's effect. The intention of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of estrogen as an adjuvant agent in the treatment of women with chronic schizophrenia.
