Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are a type of mesenchymal tumor of the gastrointestinal tract that originate anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract, with the colon and appendix being the least recorded sites of occurrence. The following case report is that of a colonic GIST in a 53-year-old male and its histologic type. Included are notes on the recent additions and updates in the risk stratification of GISTs occurring in unusual sites with the relevant immunohistochemistry.

Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) is emerging as a prominent methodological tool in strategic management research. Although it offers various advancements to stay relevant with growing research needs, the pace of PLS-SEM adoption may differ in different parts of the world. In this paper, we conducted a systematic review using the PRISMA framework and extracted from the top-ranking strategic management journals 120 articles published between 2011 and 2022 that presented a microscopic view on developing nations.

Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is the gold standard for the detection of new variants of SARS-CoV-2 including those which have immune escape properties, high infectivity, and variable severity. This test is helpful in genomic surveillance, for planning appropriate and timely public health interventions. But labs with NGS facilities are not available in small or medium research settings due to the high cost of setting up such a facility.

Serotonin levels are increased in acute appendicitis. We investigated the possible source of this increase. The aim of this study was to compare the distribution and density of epithelial and nonepithelial enterochromaffin (EC) cells as well as numbers of degranulated and nondegranulated mast cells in different layers of normal appendices and acute appendicitis.

Background: The major malaria vector in Sri Lanka is reported to be Anopheles culicifacies with Anopheles subpictus, Anopheles annularis, and Anopheles varuna considered as potential vectors. The occurrence of Anopheles stephensi, which is the key vector of urban malaria in India and the Middle East, had never been reported from Sri Lanka.

Methods: A series of entomological investigations were carried out by the Anti Malaria Campaign, Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka during December 2016 to April 2017 in two localities of the Mannar District in the Northern Province of the country.

Recurrent cutaneous necrotizing eosinophilic vasculitis is a rare entity described by Chen et al. It has a benign course without any systemic involvement. However, often long-term treatment with systemic steroids is required.

The blast crisis of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) can be hematological or extramedullary. About 25% of these cases fulfill the criteria for mixed phenotype acute leukemia. We here report a case of a second blast crisis of CML which was extramedullary and was immunophenotypically bilineage T/myeloid.

Leiomyosarcomas of colon are rare tumors accounting for less than 1% of cases which are often misdiagnosed and confused with gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). We report a case of 54-year-old male presenting with abdominal pain with computer tomography (CT) showing a retroperitoneal mass. He underwent laparotomy and surgical excision of mass was done.

Cutaneous pseudolymphomas are benign lymphoproliferative processes mimicking lymphomas clinically and histologically. One of the precipitating factors for pseudolymphoma is drugs like anticonvulsants, antidepressants and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. According to existing literature phenytoin-induced cutaneous pseudolymphomas are usually T-cell predominant.

Merkel cell carcinoma is an aggressive and frequently lethal tumor of the elderly, associated with sun exposure and immunosuppression which is less common in the dark-skinned. We report the case of a 40-year-old woman who presented with multiple slowly progressive, mildly itchy ulcerated plaques of size ranging from 2 × 3 cm to 5 × 7 cm on the left knee of 1 year duration. Skin biopsy showed diffuse dermal infiltration by small round cells with molding of cells and lymphocyte infiltration.

Herein is presented an interesting case of small-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the cervix which initially manifests as seizures due to hyponatremia caused by paraneoplastic syndrome of inappropriate anti diuretic hormone (SIADH). Awareness of a paraneoplastic syndrome at presentation can lead to early diagnosis and early initiation of treatment. The management is also unique in that it combines treating the paraneoplastic aspects as well as targeting the tumour itself.

RNA interference (RNAi) is a potential strategy to control shrimp viral diseases, including the white spot disease caused by White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV). Selection of genes for targeting is an important criterion. We have compared the efficacy of dsRNAs targeting structural (vp28 and vp281) and nonstructural genes (rr1 and dnapol) of WSSV in controlling viral multiplication in Penaeus monodon.

Copper Zinc Superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD) is the family of most important antioxidant metalloenzymes that protects tissues from damage by reactive oxygen species (ROS). In the present study, the intracellular copper zinc SOD from the Asian seabass Lates calcarifer (Lc-icCuZnSOD) was identified by RNA ligase mediated rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RLM-RACE) technique. The full-length cDNA of Lc-icCuZnSOD consisted of 809 nucleotides with an open-reading frame of 465 bp encoding 154 amino acids and N-Glycosylation site (NVTA) within.

Background: There was a recent epidemic of chikungunya (CKG) in Calicut and other northern districts of Kerala, South India, affecting thousands of people.

Aims: To study the cutaneous manifestations of CKG and to have a serological and histopathological correlation.

Methods: A total of 162 patients (63 males and 99 females) with cutaneous manifestations of CKG were enrolled in the study and serological confirmation was done with capture IgM ELISA for CKG.

Eight cases of a histological entity that we name 'acute eosinophilic appendicitis' (AEA) are described and compared with classical acute appendicitis and appendices, which turned out to be normal after emergency appendicectomy. These 8 cases formed part of a dataset of 128 emergency appendicectomies, which also included 78 cases of classical acute appendicitis and 42 cases of normal appendix. The clinical and pathological variables were compared between these three.

Finding of increased numbers of eosinophils in the muscle in cases of acute appendicitis has led to the hypothesis that it may have an allergic origin. This study aimed to measure the eosinophil degranulation resulting in a rise in the serum of eosinophil granule proteins that would be expected in such cases. The levels of serum eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) measured by chemiluminescence assay in acute appendicitis were compared, with those of appropriate controls.

Aims: To formulate evidence based histopathological criteria for the diagnosis of acquired toxoplasmic lymphadenitis, in an area of high tuberculosis prevalence.

Methods: Multiple histopathological parameters were assessed in a consecutive sample of biopsies from 68 patients presenting with lymphadenopathy with a duration of less than six months. Serum IgM enzyme linked immunosorbent assay was used as the standard reference test for the diagnosis of toxoplasmic lymphadenitis.
