We aimed to assess neurodegenerative changes in the rhinencephalon via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and relate it to olfactory function and diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Individuals aged 18-65 with T1D duration over 10 years and control healthy subjects underwent olfactory assessment using Sniffin'Sticks and brain MRI to assess volumetric measurements of the olfactory bulbs and piriform cortex thickness. 32 T1D (24 males) aged 43.

Article Synopsis
  • Acute pulmonary embolism (APE) is a serious condition that can be deadly if not diagnosed and treated quickly, but global adherence to established diagnostic guidelines is inconsistent, affecting how patients are managed.* -
  • A survey of Polish physicians revealed that many do not consistently follow the 2019 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines for diagnosing PE; most rely on D-dimer tests and CT scans rather than recommended clinical prediction rules.* -
  • There is a significant opportunity to improve PE diagnosis in Poland by increasing guideline adherence, establishing PE response teams, and providing greater training on evidence-based practices.*

Background: Acute pulmonary embolism (APE) represents the third most common acute cardiovascular disease in Poland, posing an increasing burden on healthcare systems.

Aims: This study aimed to assess the availability of diagnostic methods and unmet needs in APE diagnosis in Polish hospitals.

Methods: An online survey prepared using the modified Delphi method was distributed to hospital departments for completion by physicians.

Introduction: Youth with diabetes should transition from paediatric to adult diabetes services in a deliberate, organized and cooperative way. We sought to identify healthcare professionals' (HCPs) experiences and perceptions around transition readiness planning, policies and procedures, and the actual transfer to adult services.

Methods: Data were collected via an online global survey (seven language options), broadly advertised by the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD), European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), team members and partners, via newsletters, websites, e-mails and social media.

The management of type 2 diabetes (T2D) often necessitates treatment intensification, and sometimes simplification to achieve glycaemic targets and mitigate complications. This expert opinion paper evaluates the use and positioning of the fixed-ratio combinations (FRCs) of basal insulin (BI) and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) in optimising T2D management. On the basis of the evidence presented and discussions, these FRCs offer a promising approach for both treatment intensification and simplification in people with suboptimal glucose control despite receiving various therapies.

The aim of the study was to investigate the relation between thyroid autoimmunity (TAI), reflected as the presence of thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb), and parameters of ovarian reserve in women with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). We studied 83 euthyroid women with T1DM (age - 26 ± 5 years, BMI - 24 ± 3 kg/m) - 12 with PCOS and positive TPOAb (PCOS + TPOAb), 29 with PCOS with negative TPOAb (PCOS + noTPOAb), 18 without PCOS with positive TPOAb (noPCOS + TPOAb), 24 without PCOS with negative TPOAb (noPCOS + noTPOAb). Serum concentrations of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), sex hormones, TSH, thyroid hormones and TPOAb were assessed.

Purpose: Intermediate-high-risk pulmonary embolism (IHR PE) is a challenging form of embolism obstruction that causes right ventricular (RV) dysfunction. The optimal management of IHR PE has not been established. This single-center prospective, observational study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of complex catheter-directed therapy (CDT) - catheter-directed mechanical aspiration thrombectomy (CDMT) supplemented with catheter-directed thrombolysis (hybrid CDT) in comparison to CDMT alone for IHR PE.

Objectives: The purpose of this article is to present the authors´ comments on the analysis of the conditions for admitting a person to a psychiatric hospital against their will on the basis of a judgment issued by a guardianship court as part of proceedings initiated at the request of an authorized entity, and the assumptions contained therein are based on applicable normative acts.

Methods: The method of analyzing the current provisions of medical law was used, and of the social security law were also referred to. The judicature of the courts, in particular the Supreme Court, was collected, presented and considered, which constitute a practical guide in assessing whether or not the conditions for admitting a patient to a psychiatric hospital without their consent have been met.

Background: Catheter directed therapies (CDT) are widely used in the treatment of acute pulmonary embolism (PE). A multicenter registry was organized to evaluate their application in real life and to determine efficacy and safety of these procedures. Local experience of participating centers in percutaneous techniques for PE treatment was assessed.

Background: The impact of left circumflex coronary artery (LCX) ostium atherosclerosis in left main coronary artery (LM) bifurcation disease is not well-known.

Aim: The study aimed to assess whether the involvement of LCX ostium carries prognostic implications in patients undergoing unprotected LM percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Methods: Consecutive 564 patients with unprotected LM (ULMCA) disease who underwent LM PCI between January 2015 and February 2021, with at least 1 year of available follow-up were included in the study.
