Obstacles and Opportunities for Diffusion of Integrated Pest Management Strategies Reported by Bolivian Small-Scale Farmers and Agronomists.

Integrated pest management (IPM) with an increased used of ecological farming methods and less and safer use of pesticides offers solutions to reduce risks of developing pest resistance, human poisoning, and environmental pollution. Despite being promoted by Food and Agriculture Organization and others, it has not spread readily in low-income countries. This article presents the opinions of Bolivian farmers and agronomists on perceived obstacles and opportunities for a diffusion of IPM.

Abdominal wall healing in incisional hernia using different biomaterials in rabbits.

Purpose: To investigate abdominal wound healing using specific biomaterials in incisional hernias.

Methods: Incisional hernias were produced in 40 rabbits, after that they were reoperated with or without the use of meshes: PREMILENE® (PPL), ULTRAPRO® (UP), PROCEED® (PCD) or repairing without mesh (TRANSPALB). After 30 days a macroscopic and microscopic study of the part withdrawn from the abdominal wall was performed.

Endoscopic treatment of bleeding gastric varices using large amount of N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate under fluoroscopic guidance.

Purpose: We propose the use of fluoroscopic guidance for endoscopic injection of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate to treat gastric variceal hemorrhage to achieve placement of the safest quantity of tissue adhesive.

Methods: Ten patients with gastric varices were treated with n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate endoscopic injection under fluoroscopic guidance for the purpose of hemostasis or prevention of recurrent bleeding. The glue was infused into the varices in the quantities needed to achieve complete obliteration of the gastric varices.

Repeatability of the sonographic assessment of fetal sucking and swallowing movements.

Objective: To test the repeatability of sonography in the assessment of fetal sucking and swallowing movements.

Methods: Eighty normal fetuses of pregnant women with no systemic abnormalities were examined sonographically at 30-38 weeks of gestation. Sucking and swallowing movements were observed for 15 min and the face was visualized in frontal and lateral views.

Pregnancy after cardiac transplantation. Report of one case and review.

A 14-year-old female patient became pregnant 6 years after heart transplantation. The pregnancy evolved uneventfully, and the newborn infant was healthy. Five months after delivery, the mother was in good condition with preserved ventricular function, and the baby had normal neuro-psychomotor development.
