Background: Gastric protection is commonly considered in patients who use medications able to damage gastric mucosa, mainly NSAIDs, antiplatelets, and anticoagulants. Therefore, cardiologists may frequently prescribe drugs to protect the stomach from damaging medications. The present survey investigated the attitude toward using gastric protection by a panel of Italian cardiologists.

Objective: Postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) and epigastric pain syndrome (EPS) are the two main forms of functional dyspepsia (FD). Probiotics are a promising therapy for FD, but current data remains heterogeneous. This work aims to evaluate a probiotic combination of LR04 (DSM 16605), LPS01 (DSM 21980), LP01 (LMG P-21021), and subsp.

In the pandemic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) era, the need to use preventive-curative treatments is compelling. A series of non-pharmacological compounds, including supplements (oligoelements and vitamins), probiotics, and nutraceuticals, might affect the risk of COVID-19 or reducing clinical severity. Non-pharmacological remedies are easily available and usually have no relevant side effects.

Laryngotracheitis is a common disease, mainly characterized by dysphonia, cough, and sore throat. The diagnosis is usually based on the clinical ground, and antibiotic therapy is frequently used in clinical practice. However, antibiotics frequently induce intestinal dysbiosis associated with some clinical problems.

Inflammation and infection are common pathogenic mechanisms involved in many otorhinolaryngological (ORL) chronic diseases. Broncalt® is a class II Medical Device containing: thermal water (Medesano, PR, Italy), hyaluronic acid, and grapefruit seed extract. It could exert a safe and effective anti-inflammatory, washing, and antimicrobial activity by virtue of these components.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic intestinal disorders (CID) like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and diverticular disease (DD) are characterized by recurring episodes and are often linked to imbalances in gut microbiota.
  • A survey involving 3,460 outpatients evaluated the effects of Abincol®, a probiotic nutraceutical, which contains specific strains of Lactobacillus and was taken daily for 8 weeks.
  • Results showed that Abincol® significantly reduced intestinal symptoms and improved stool quality, suggesting it could be an effective and safe treatment for managing chronic intestinal disorders.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a very common disease, as about a quarter of the Western population has GERD symptoms at least weekly and GERD is the most frequent reason for outpatient gastroenterology consultation. GERD treatment is based on proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use, but PPI may be ineffective in some patients and potentially unsafe if administered for very long time. A new medical compound (Marial®) has been introduced on the Italian market.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is defined as a “disease that develops when the reflux of stomach contents induces troublesome symptoms and/or complications”. From a therapeutic point of view, many options have been proposed, including proton pump inhibitors (PPI), antihistamines (H2- receptor antagonists), antacid chemical compounds, antireflux barrier (using alginates), prokinetics, inhibitors of gastric sphincters, protection of mucosal tissue, neuromodulators, nociceptor antagonists, lifestyle modification, and surgery. A new medical compound has been recently launched in Italy: Marial® (manufactured by Aurora, Milan, Italy) containing magnesium alginate and E-Gastryal®.
