Facial feminization surgery (FFS) is critical to gender-affirming surgery, consisting of craniomaxillofacial procedures to align facial features with a patient's gender identity. Central to FFS is genioplasty, which reshapes or repositions the chin; however, limited research exists on genioplasty in FFS. This review and cohort analysis aim to evaluate current practices and outcomes for individuals undergoing FFS with genioplasty.

Article Synopsis
  • High-grade B-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified (HGBCL, NOS) shares similarities with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and Burkitt lymphoma (BL), which complicates its diagnosis and treatment.
  • A study on a cohort of 55 patients revealed that about 60% of HGBCL, NOS cases don't express the BL gene signature and instead display characteristics aligned with DLBCL, while showing significant genetic diversity and changes in critical regulatory genes.
  • Pediatric HGBCL, NOS cases exhibited gene expressions typical of GCB-DLBCL and also showed key mutations seen in pediatric BL; the research highlighted PIM1 mutations in adults as a potential target for new therapies.

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is a heterogeneous group of neoplasms, with many cases remaining unclassifiable and categorized as PTCL-not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS). Gene expression profiling (GEP) has delineated 2 prognostic subtypes within PTCL-NOS, PTCL-TBX21 and PTCL-GATA3, characterized by distinctive transcriptomes and a different prognosis. To further evaluate the pathologic features of these subgroups, 101 PTCL cases that did not meet specific criteria for well-defined T-cell lymphoma entities underwent detailed pathologic, immunophenotypic (including T follicular helper [T] biomarkers), and GEP analyses, separating them into PTCL-NOS (n = 63) and PTCL-TFH (also known as nodal PTCL-TFH, NOS, and TFH lymphoma, NOS) (n = 38).

Purpose: Diabetic macular edema (DME), a leading cause of visual impairment, can occur regardless of diabetic retinopathy (DR) stage. Poor metabolic control is hypothesized to contribute to DME development, although large-scale studies have yet to identify such an association. This study aims to determine whether measurable markers of dysmetabolism are associated with DME development in persons with diabetes.

Background: Vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) has become a viable option for restoration of devastating injuries that are not amenable to conventional reconstructive techniques. However, the relative scarcity of procedures performed worldwide, as well as the potential for iatrogenic injury with biopsies, makes studying the immunopathogenesis of acute rejection challenging. Translational VCA research focuses on developing strategies to overcome these barriers with the use of animal models can be technically challenging and difficult to replicate without highly trained microsurgeons.

Importance: Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) intravitreal injections, a mainstay of treatment for many retinal diseases to optimize visual outcomes, have been included in prior authorization (PA) initiatives. However, if clinicians are extremely accurate in their use of anti-VEGF medications, such administrative burdens may need reconsideration.

Objective: To quantify PA for anti-VEGF medications (aflibercept, ranibizumab, and bevacizumab) that were approved and determine associated administrative burdens experienced by retina practices.
