Purpose: PIK3CA gene mutations have clinical importance and their presence is associated with therapy response. They are also considered as a molecule for targeted therapy. As regards to their importance, genetic variation within a population as well as among different populations, this study was conducted to detect common mutations of exons 9 and 20 and other probable mutations in PIK3CA gene as well as their frequencies in Iranian bladder cancer patients.

To compare the efficacy of transdermal electromotive administration and intra-lesional injection of verapamil plus dexamethasone for the treatment of Peyronie's disease. Patients with Peyronie's disease of less than 2-year duration were randomized into two groups of transdermal electromotive administration and intra-lesional injection of verapamil plus dexamethasone. During the 6-week therapy period, a single weekly dose of 10 mg verapamil and 4 mg dexamethasone solution was administered to 30 patients in each group either by transdermal electromotive method or via the conventional injection method by a syringe connected to a 25 G needle.

Purpose: To determine the probability of having prostate cancer (PCa) using the combination of serum level of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and age.

Materials And Methods: A total of 160 patients and 190 controls were enrolled in this hospital-based case-control study. Using a logistic regression model and the odds ratio of age and PSA level, the probability of PCa was estimated based on serum level of PSA and age of the participants.

Background: To determine a cut-off point of tPSA and PSAD to prevent unnecessary invasive cancer-diagnosing tests in the community.

Methods: This study was performed on 688 consecutive patients referred to our center due to prostatism, suspicious lesions on digital rectal examination and/or elevated serum PSA levels. All patients underwent transrectal ultrasound guided biopsies and obtained PSAD.

Purpose: To assess the accuracy of voided urine cytology versus urinary nuclear matrix protein 22 (NMP22) qualitative assay in the diagnosis of various grades and stages of recurrent bladder transitional cell carcinoma (TCC).

Materials And Methods: From July 2007 to February 2009, all patients with history of superficial bladder TCC were included in this multi-center study. Each patient provided three serial voided urine samples for cytologic examination and one sample for the NMP22 qualitative assay prior to urethrocystoscopy.

To determine the prevalence of pre and post prostatectomy related urinary tract infection and its correlation with peri-operative events, we studied 120 patients who underwent prostatectomy due to benign prostatic hypertrophy from September 2005 to September 2006. Urine cultures were performed before the operations, after a week, and three months later. Data including prostate volume, prostatic specific antigen (PSA), post voiding residue (PVR) and histopathological reports as well as the duration of urinary leak, bladder irrigation, hospitalization, and catheterization were studied.

Objective: We investigated the relevance of donor bone marrow cell infusion (DBMI) and serum levels of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), interleukin-10 (IL-10), and soluble CD30 (sCD30) in kidney recipients.

Patients And Methods: We analyzed the allograft outcomes correlated with sCD30, IFN-gamma, and IL-10 levels using pre- and posttransplantation sera from 40 live donor renal transplants (20 patients with DBMI [2.1 x 10(9) +/- 1.

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) has been associated with decreased risk of prostate cancer (PC) in several reports. Hormonal environment of diabetic patients is believed to be an important contributing factor in this regard.

Methods: Using data from a multi-center case-control study in Iran, base line testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), estradiol, and albumin levels as well as thorough demographic and medical characteristics of 194 newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients were determined.
