There is no established consensus or standardized method for the preparation of amniotic membrane extract (AME). Consequently, various preparation, preservation, and sterilization techniques have been employed. To obtain AME rich in bioactive components with high therapeutic efficacy, each step of the preparation process is of critical importance.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, inflammation and apoptosis are observed in contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI). NOX4, isoform of NADPH oxidase main regulatory enzyme for ROS generation, is mostly expressed in the kidney and co-localized with p22phox. It is investigated the effect of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic montelukast pre-treatment on expression of NOX4, p22phox and NF-κB in preventing CI-AKI in rats in this study.

Serum choline, leptin and interleukin-6 levels in fibromyalgia syndrome-induced pain: a case-control study.

Background: Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) predominantly affects middle-aged women, characterized by musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and cognitive issues. Choline, an endogenous molecule, may influence FMS due to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. This study compared choline, leptin, and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels in FMS patients and controls and examining their association with pain severity.

Topical application of amniotic membrane extract at a clinically correlated dose is effective in limiting complications in an experimental ocular alkaline burn model.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical and histopathological effectiveness of topical amniotic membrane extract (AME) applied at a clinically relevant dose in an experimental corneal alkaline burn model and to compare the results with amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) as one of the most frequently used biologically based treatment options. To create an alkaline burn model, NaOH-impregnated filter paper was applied to all rabbits for 30 s. Rabbits were divided into 3 groups: Group 1 (n = 6): AME eye drop; Group 2 (n = 6): AMT; Group 3 (n = 4): control group.

Physician and patient perceptions of treatment were captured via cross-sectional surveys; patients' clinical characteristics were recorded by retrospective review of medical records.

Nephrectomy in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease: A consensus statement of the ERA Genes & Kidney Working Group.

A substantial number of patients with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) undergo a nephrectomy, especially in work-up for a kidney transplantation. Currently, there is no evidence-based algorithm to guide clinicians which patients should undergo nephrectomy, the optimal timing of this procedure, or the preferred surgical technique. This systematic review-based consensus statement aimed to answer important questions regarding nephrectomy in ADPKD.

Purpose: This study investigates the superiority of sterile lyophilized amniotic membrane extract (AME) prepared at a clinically correlated dose over amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) in an experimental corneal wound model.

Methods: AME was prepared from a pool of five amniotic membranes. After homogenizing the membranes, they were lyophilized and sterilized by gamma radiation to obtain sterile, lyophilized AME powder.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to surveil the injuries in wrestling according to the different age categories and wrestling styles throughout the competition season.

Methods: The study was designed as a descriptive study. The study was conducted during the wrestling competition season in 2023 (from January 2023 to July 2023), which includes 5 different age categories: U-15, U-17, U-20, U-23, and seniors, along with the Turkey National Wrestling Championships.

To address these challenges, we present pyPARAGON (PAgeRAnk-flux on Graphlet-guided network for multi-Omic data integratioN), a novel tool that combines network propagation with graphlets.

Review: Cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders: multi-scale reasoning and computational guide.

The connection and causality between cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders have been puzzling. How can the same cellular pathways, proteins, and mutations lead to pathologies with vastly different clinical presentations? And why do individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism and schizophrenia, face higher chances of cancer emerging throughout their lifetime? Our broad review emphasizes the multi-scale aspect of this type of reasoning. As these examples demonstrate, rather than focusing on a specific organ system or disease, we aim at the new understanding that can be gained.

This scoping review prepared by endocrinology and nephrology experts aimed to address the significance of finerenone, as a novel therapeutic option, in diabetic kidney disease (DKD), based on the biological prospect of cardiorenal benefit due to non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA) properties, and the recent evidence from the finerenone phase 3 program clinical trials. The importance of finerenone in slowing DKD progression was critically reviewed in relation to the role of MR overactivation in the pathogenesis of cardiorenal disease and unmet needs in the current practice patterns. The efficacy and safety outcomes of finerenone phase III study program including FIDELIO-DKD, FIGARO-DKD and FIDELITY were presented.

Genetic diversity and population structure of Penicillium roqueforti isolates from Turkish blue cheeses.

Blue cheeses, including renowned mold-ripened varieties such as Roquefort (France), Gorgonzola (Italy), Stilton (UK), Danablue (Denmark), and Cabrales (Spain), owe their distinct blue-green color and unique flavor to the fungal species Penicillium roqueforti. In Turkey, traditional cheeses similar to blue cheeses, namely mold-ripened Tulum and Civil, employ production techniques distinct from their European counterparts. Notably, mold-ripening in Turkish cheeses is spontaneous and does not involve starter cultures.
