Introduction: Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors (RAAS-I) have been shown to prolong overall survival in patients with liver metastasized colorectal cancer in combination with antiangiogenic treatment. The effects of RAAS-I combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy on colorectal cancer liver metastasis remain unexplored. We aimed to study the response of patients undergoing liver resection to RAAS-I in combination with neoadjuvant therapy to elucidate their potential benefits.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic had the potential to severely disrupt the delivery of methadone and buprenorphine, as social distancing and other public health regulations made in-person services difficult to maintain. Federal and state regulators changed requirements regarding the dispensing of medication and in-person counseling at opioid treatment programs. Understanding staff and patient reactions to these changes can help determine whether they should be maintained.

Background: Guidelines recommend treatment with 4-5 days of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) for optimal donor peripheral blood progenitor cell (PBPC) mobilization followed by day 5 collection. Antiferromagnets have recently emerged as attractive platforms for spintronics applications, offering fundamentally new functionalities compared with their ferromagnetic counterparts. Whereas nanoscale thin-film materials are key to the development of future antiferromagnetic spintronic technologies, existing experimental tools tend to suffer from low resolution or expensive and complex equipment requirements. We offer a simple, high-resolution alternative by addressing the ubiquitous surface magnetization of magnetoelectric antiferromagnets in a granular thin-film sample on the nanoscale using single-spin magnetometry in combination with spin-sensitive transport experiments.

Over the last fifty years, gold production from small-scale mining has been accelerating and consequently the amount of mercury released to the environment has increased dramatically, causing major global health problems. Many promising applications of single crystal diamond and its color centers as sensor platform and in photonics require free-standing membranes with a thickness ranging from several micrometers to the few 100 nm range. In this work, we present an approach to conveniently fabricate such thin membranes with up to about one millimeter in size. We use commercially available diamond plates (thickness 50 μ m) in an inductively coupled reactive ion etching process which is based on argon, oxygen and SF 6 .

Although ferromagnets have many applications, their large magnetization and the resulting energy cost for switching magnetic moments bring into question their suitability for reliable low-power spintronic devices. Non-collinear antiferromagnetic systems do not suffer from this problem, and often have extra functionalities: non-collinear spin order may break space-inversion symmetry and thus allow electric-field control of magnetism, or may produce emergent spin-orbit effects that enable efficient spin-charge interconversion. To harness these traits for next-generation spintronics, the nanoscale control and imaging capabilities that are now routine for ferromagnets must be developed for antiferromagnetic systems.

Magnetic random access memory schemes employing magnetoelectric coupling to write binary information promise outstanding energy efficiency. We propose and demonstrate a purely antiferromagnetic magnetoelectric random access memory (AF-MERAM) that offers a remarkable 50-fold reduction of the writing threshold compared with ferromagnet-based counterparts, is robust against magnetic disturbances and exhibits no ferromagnetic hysteresis losses. Using the magnetoelectric antiferromagnet CrO, we demonstrate reliable isothermal switching via gate voltage pulses and all-electric readout at room temperature.

The electronic spin of the nitrogen vacancy (NV) center in diamond forms an atomically sized, highly sensitive sensor for magnetic fields. To harness the full potential of individual NV centers for sensing with high sensitivity and nanoscale spatial resolution, NV centers have to be incorporated into scanning probe structures enabling controlled scanning in close proximity to the sample surface. Here, we present an optimized procedure to fabricate single-crystal, all-diamond scanning probes starting from commercially available diamond and show a highly efficient and robust approach for integrating these devices in a generic atomic force microscope.

Local measurements of penetration depths or magnetic stray fields enable access to fundamental aspects such as nanoscale variations in superfluid densities or the order parameter symmetry of superconductors. Silicon photonics enables large-scale photonic-electronic integration by leveraging highly developed fabrication processes from the microelectronics industry. The aim of this study was to compare the caries-preventive effect of a stabilized stannous fluoride/sodium fluoride dentifrice containing sodium hexametaphosphate with those of a regular, solely sodium fluoride-containing and amine fluoride-containing dentifrice on pre-demineralized bovine enamel specimens using a pH-cycling model. Bovine enamel specimens with two artificial lesions each were prepared. Baseline mineral loss of both lesions was analyzed using transversal microradiography (TMR).

This report presents results of Project LINK, a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)-funded, 5-year collaboration (2007-2012) between New York City (NYC) health and NY State substance abuse disorder (SUD) agencies, an LGBT organization contractor, and multiple SUD, social service, and mental health referral agencies. LINK allowed the first ever SUD screening, brief intervention, and referrals to treatment (SBIRT) intervention services onsite in NYC Bureau of Sexually Transmitted Disease Control (BSTDC) clinics. Factors favoring collaboration were (a) joint recognition of substance abuse as an STD risk factor; (b) prior collaborations; (c) agreement on priority of BSTDC's mission and policies; (d) extensive SBIRT training, cross training on STDs; (e) a memorandum of agreement; and (f) mutual transparency of collaborative efforts, among others.

This study examined records of patients in New York State treatment programs for substance use disorders from 1995 to 2012, which consisted of 81,471 patients with a self-reported veteran status and 1,260,618 without. Results indicated that, compared to other patients in community-based treatment, veterans have distinctive demographic characteristics, primary substance use, and treatment participation. Implications of the findings were discussed.

We report on single electronic spins coupled to the motion of mechanical resonators by a novel mechanism based on crystal strain. Our device consists of single-crystal diamond cantilevers with embedded nitrogen-vacancy center spins. Using optically detected electron spin resonance, we determine the unknown spin-strain coupling constants and demonstrate that our system resides well within the resolved sideband regime.

This paper provides an integrated view on various aspects of reactor design for photocatalytic reactions and presents a scale-up study of photocatalytic reactors. This study focuses on degrading organic pollutants in the effluent of an integrated gasification coal combustion plant over TiO2, with the target of degrading cyanide to below its allowable emission threshold set by European legislation. Here, we show the interplay of different efficiencies that affect the overall apparent photonic efficiency and the reactor volume required to achieve a certain objective in conversion.
