Comparison of chemical extraction methods for determination of 146S content in foot-and-mouth disease oil-adjuvanted vaccine.

Aims: To compare antigen extraction efficiency of chemical methods such as benzyl alcohol, chloroform, sodium citrate, extraction buffer with Tween-20 (EBT) and isopropyl myristate for determination of 146S content in the fresh and stored FMD oil-adjuvanted vaccines.

Methods And Results: Standard vaccine with antigen payload of 10, 5 and 5 µg per cattle dose (2 ml) for serotypes O, A and Asia1, respectively, was used to compare the antigen extraction efficiency of five chemical methods: benzyl alcohol, chloroform, sodium citrate, EBT buffer and isopropyl myristate. The purity of the extracted 146S antigen was quantified by caesium chloride (CsCl) ultracentrifugation.

Short-Term Evaluation of Gustatory Changes After Surgical Removal of Mandibular Third Molar-A Prospective Randomized Control Trial.

Purpose: The present study was carried out to prospectively determine the incidence and severity of suprathreshold taste changes after surgical removal of mandibular third molars.

Materials And Methods: Sixty patients who required removal of impacted third molars were included in the study. Based on the Winter criteria of angulation of impacted mandibular third molars, 15 patients each with mesioangular, distoangular, horizontal, and vertical impacted third molars were selected.

Primary synovial sarcoma of the maxilla.

An innocuously appearing gingival mass in the maxilla revealed extensive osteolysis on radiographic examination. A rare clinical presentation of synovial sarcoma, appropriate diagnostic strategies and suitable treatment protocol in a 21-year-old male is reported herewith. It is only the third case of primary monophasic synovial sarcoma of the maxilla to be reported to the best of our knowledge and the first to have occurred in a male patient.

Endodontic diagnosis is challenging and depends on the organisation of information from the patient history, clinical examination and analysis of the pulp, radiographic and histopathological assessment. A 35-year-old man was endodontically treated for radiolucency in relation to the roots of maxillary central incisors as it was a provisionally diagnosed case of radicular cyst. Since the palatal swelling persisted, the lesion was re-evaluated using relevant diagnostic aids and a diagnosis of nasopalatine duct cyst (NPDC) was made, which was missed during the initial assessment.

The objective of the present study is to determine the phylogenetic position of the Theileria organisms in blood of cattle of southern India using molecular tools. Theileria annulata (Namakkal isolate, Tamil Nadu) and three Theileria field isolates (free of T. annulata) from Wayanad, Kerala (Wayanad 1, 2, 3) were used.

Protective potential of Black grapes against lead induced oxidative stress in rats.

From time immemorial Vitis vinifera (Black grapes) have been used both for medicinal and nourishment purposes. The aim of this study is to investigate the protective effect of Black grapes against lead nitrate induced oxidative stress. Exposure to lead significantly increased malondialdehyde levels with a significant decrease in superoxide dismutase and catalase activities, and the concentration of GSH in the liver and kidneys of rats.

Calcifying odontogenic cyst: a rare report of a nonneoplastic variant associated with cholesterol granuloma.

Aim: To report a case of a non-neoplastic variant of calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) with the lining epithelium showing ameloblastomatous proliferation and capsule exhibiting features of a cholesterol granuloma. The importance of delineating this histologic variant from unicystic ameloblastoma and the formation of cholesterol granuloma in this variant is discussed.

In vitro evaluation of acaricidal activity of fipronil against Haemaphysalis bispinosa based on adult immersion test.

Fipronil is a phenylpyrazole family insecticide which mainly affects the nervous system of insects. In the present study, the in vitro acaricidal effects of the compound against the widely prevalent multihost tick, Haemaphysalis bispinosa was assessed. The lowest concentration at which complete adult tick mortality was observed was at 25 ppm while complete absence of egg mass observed at 10 ppm.

To examine the role played by monocytes in filarial infection, we assessed the responses of monocytes obtained from normal and filarial parasite-infected individuals to both crude filarial antigen and purified recombinant filarial antigen WbSXP-1 and attempted to relate these to the altered lymphoproliferative responses seen in filarial infection.
