With deep historical roots in psychiatry, structural racism persists in psychiatric nursing today. Psychiatric nurses may hold implicit biases and stereotypical beliefs that influence how they perceive, assess, and interact with people from different racial backgrounds, leading to discrimination, poor treatment, and misdiagnosis. To eliminate discrimination in clinical care and diversify the workforce, there is an urgent need to integrate teaching and learning strategies that address influences of racism and racial identity in psychiatric nursing education.

Molecular Modeling to Identify the Role of Enzymes Involved in Mitochondriogenesis Upon Malvidin-3-Glucoside Effect.

Aim: Mitochondriogenesis refers to the process of creating and maintaining mitochondria, which plays an essential role in cellular metabolism. Mitochondrial processes such as energy generation, the response to oxidative stress, and cell death are all tightly regulated by enzymes. The flavonoid molecule malvidin-3-glucoside (M3G), which may be found in a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, has been shown to improve mitochondrial activity.

Mental Health Diagnoses on the Mini International Psychiatric Interview Are Associated With Higher Scores on the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale.

Objective: To understand if Mini International Psychiatric Interview (MINI) scores in pregnancy are associated with higher scores on the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS).

Design: Cross-sectional pilot study of participants who completed the EPDS during pregnancy and were then invited to complete the MINI.

Setting/local Problem: An urban outpatient clinic at an academic medical setting from November 2020 to June 2021.

In the current infodemic, how individuals receive information (channel), who it is coming from (source), and how it is framed can have an important effect on COVID-19 related mitigation behaviors. In light of these challenges presented by the infodemic, Dear Pandemic (DP) was created to directly address persistent questions related to COVID-19 and other health topics in the online environment. This is a qualitative analysis of 3806 questions that were submitted by DP readers to a question box on the Dear Pandemic website between August 30, 2020 and August 29, 2021.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic was accompanied by an "infodemic"-an overwhelming excess of accurate, inaccurate, and uncertain information. The social media-based science communication campaign Dear Pandemic was established to address the COVID-19 infodemic, in part by soliciting submissions from readers to an online question box. Our study characterized the information needs of Dear Pandemic's readers by identifying themes and longitudinal trends among question box submissions.

Social media allows misinformation to spread quickly and outcompete scientifically grounded information delivered via other methods. is an innovative, multidisciplinary, social media-based science communication project whose mission is to educate and empower individuals to successfully navigate the overwhelming amount of information circulating during the pandemic.

Is Hyperthermic Intrathoracic Chemotherapy (HITHOC) Safe and Efficacious in Masaoka-Koga Stage-IVA Thymoma? A Pilot Study.

This study was aimed at evaluating the safety and efficacy of hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy in patients with Masaoka stage IVA thymoma. This is a retrospective comparative analysis between two groups of patients who were operated for Masaoka stage IVA thymoma. One group underwent complete parietal pleurectomy whereas other group received hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy after complete pleurectomy.

Social media offers a novel platform to amplify evidence-based communication to broader audiences. This paper describes the application of science communication engagement on social media platforms by an interdisciplinary team of female scientists in a campaign called Dear Pandemic.

Role alteration predicts anxiety and depressive symptoms in parents of infants with congenital heart disease: a pilot study.

Background: Parents of infants born with critical congenital heart disease are at risk for adverse mental health symptoms. The purpose of this study was to identify infant-, parent-, and environmental-based stressors for mothers and fathers after their infants' cardiac surgery, and to explore relationships between stressors and mental health symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Methods: This study enrolled 28 biological mother-father dyads from families admitted to the paediatric cardiac intensive care unit for cardiac surgery at one free-standing children's hospital in the Northeast.

The primary objective of this study was to examine the relationship between nurse autonomy and 30-day mortality and failure to rescue (FTR) in a hospitalized surgical population.

Study Design: This study was a secondary analysis of cross-sectional data.

Molecular biomarkers are changes measured in biological samples that reflect disease states. Such markers can help clinicians identify types of cancer or stages of progression, and they can guide in tailoring specific therapies. Promoting Self-Care Management among Persons with Serious Mental Illness and HIV.

People with a serious mental illness (SMI) along with HIV have complex health conditions. This population also has high rates of poverty, difficulty in sustaining regular housing, and limited supportive networks. Typically, the combination of psychotropic and HIV medication regimens is complicated, changes frequently, and requires coordination among multiple providers.

Adverse events associated with organizational factors of general hospital inpatient psychiatric care environments.

Objective: Although general hospitals receive nearly 60% of all inpatient psychiatric admissions, little is known about the care environment and related adverse events. The purpose of this study was to determine the occurrence of adverse events and examine the extent to which organizing factors of inpatient psychiatric care environments were associated with the occurrence of these events. The events examined were wrong medication, patient falls with injuries, complaints from patients and families, work-related staff injuries, and verbal abuse directed toward nurses.

Successful transplantation of kidneys from deceased donors with acute renal failure: Three-year results.

Background: Kidneys from deceased donors with acute renal failure (ARF) are generally not accepted for transplantation because of the expected poor outcome. This prospective study examined the utilization of kidneys from donors with ARF for transplantation and the outcomes.

Methods: Fifty-five kidneys from donors with ARF were transplanted.

Safety and efficacy of steroid withdrawal two days after kidney transplantation: analysis of results at three years.

Background: Chronic steroid therapy in spite of myriad side effects is widely used in kidney transplantation. This prospective controlled study evaluated safety and efficacy of steroid withdrawal at 2 days in kidney recipients monitored by surveillance biopsy.

Methods: In all, 300 kidney recipients were studied; 150 in second-day steroid withdrawal group and 150 in steroid treated group (control group).

Comparison of steroid avoidance in tacrolimus/mycophenolate mofetil and tacrolimus/sirolimus combination in kidney transplantation monitored by surveillance biopsy.

Background: Chronic steroid therapy in kidney transplantation has myriad side effects and steroid avoidance has become feasible. This prospective study compared the safety and efficacy of steroid avoidance in tacrolimus (TAC)/mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) and TAC/sirolimus (SRL) combinations in kidney transplantation.

Methods: In all, 150 kidney recipients were analyzed: 75 each in TAC/MMF and TAC/SRL groups.

African American (AA) kidney recipients receive chronic steroid therapy to improve outcomes, despite their high susceptibility to side effects, particularly diabetes and hypertension. This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of avoidance of chronic steroid therapy in AA compared to non-AA kidney recipients. Two hundred and six kidney recipients were studied; 103 AA recipients versus 103 non-AA recipients.
