To develop clean energy utilization of sewage sludge, this study investigated the conversion behavior of organics and energy in supercritical sludge-ethanol system. The influence of liquefied parameters on products distribution, hydrogen supply process of ethanol for sludge liquefaction, migration of organics, and energy transformation were investigated. Results indicated that ethanol acted as both a solvent and a hydrogen donor.

The aim of this study is to address the limitations in reconstructing the electrical activity of the heart from the body surface electrocardiogram, which is an ill-posed inverse problem. Current methods often assume values commonly used in the literature in the absence ofknowledge, leading to errors in the model. Furthermore, most methods ignore the dynamic activation process inherent in cardiomyocytes during the cardiac cycle.

The classical Chinese Medicine prescription, Quanzhenyiqitang (QZYQT), containing seven tonic herbs (Shudi, Dangshen, Maidong, Baizhu, Niuxi, Fuzi, and Wuweizi) is clinically used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Although there are studies on the pharmacological effects of QZYQT, little attention has been paid to its active carbohydrate ingredients. We performed a systematic chemical analysis of the crude glycan isolates from the seven-herb decoction (GI-QZYQT) after confirming its anti-COPD activity.

Objective: Sialidosis type 2 has variants that are both catalytically inactive (severe), while sialidosis type 1 has at least one catalytically active (mild) variant. This study aimed to discuss the structural changes associated with these variants in a newly reported family carrying N-acetyl-α-neuraminidase-1 (NEU1) variants and explore the clinical characteristics of different combinations of variants in sialidosis type 1.

Methods: First, whole-exome sequencing and detailed clinical examinations were performed on the family.

The electrocardiogram (ECG) measurements with clinical diagnostic labels are intrinsically limited. We propose a generative learning based self-supervised method for general ECG representations applicable to various downstream tasks, thus achieving the goal of reducing the dependence on labeled data. However, existing self-supervised methods either fail to provide satisfactory ECG representations or require too much effort to curate a large amount of expert-annotated datasets.

The partial substitution of A-site in perovskites is a major strategy to enhance the catalytic oxidation activity. This study explores the use of silver (Ag) to partially replace the lanthanum (La) ion at the A-site in LaCoO perovskite, investigating the role of Ag in the ABO perovskite structure, elucidating the nitric oxide (NO) oxidation mechanism over LaAgCoO (x = 0.1-0.

Heavy metals, the main harmful substances in the sludge, are easily enriched, have adverse effects on the treatment and disposal of the sludge. In this study, two conditioners (modified corn-core powder, MCCP, and sludge-based biochar, SBB) were separately added and jointly added into municipal sludge to enhance sludge dewaterability. Meanwhile, diverse organics, such as extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), were released under pretreatment.

Long-chain fatty acid ethyl ester (LCFAEEs) is colorless and has a weak wax and cream aroma. It can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of emulsifiers, and stabilizers and be applied in the production of flavor essence. It is also an important trace component in Baijiu and is attributed to making a contribution to the quality of Baijiu, but its distribution in Baijiu has not been clear, and its influence mechanisms on Baijiu quality have not been systematically studied.

Baijiu is the national liquor of China, which has lasted in China for more than 2000 years. Abundant raw materials, multi-strain co-fermentation, and complex processes make the secrets of baijiu flavor and taste still not fully explored. Acid substances not only have a great influence on the flavor and taste of baijiu, but also have certain functions.

Migraine is the second most prevalent disorder in the world; yet, its underlying mechanisms are still poorly understood. Cumulative studies have revealed pivotal roles of cerebral cortex in the initiation, propagation, and termination of migraine attacks as well as the interictal phase. Investigation of basic mechanisms of the cortex in migraine not only brings insight into the underlying pathophysiology but also provides the basis for designing novel treatments.

The present study reports on the case of a 50-year-old male with sinusitis, diplopia, secretory otitis media and skin eczema for >14 years. The patient presented with visual impairment in both eyes and subxiphoid pain on admission to the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University (Shenyang, China). Orbital CT revealed a slightly thickened left inferior rectus muscle.

Sludge is an inevitable by-product of municipal wastewater treatment processes, and its high moisture content poses a major challenge for its subsequent treatment and disposal. Previous studies have explored the effects of applying modified corn-core powder (MCCP) on dewatering sludge. Here, we characterized the effects of applying both MCCP and sludge-based biochar (SBB) on dewatering sludge.

Extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) which wrapped on sludge particles were deemed to hinder the outflowing of combined water in sludge system. The complex composition of EPS was the bottleneck for revealing its relationship with sludge dewaterability. In this study, a combined modified corn-core powder (MCCP) and sludge-based biochar (SBB) condition was executed to treat sludge for enhancing dehydration performance, and the concentration and the form distribution of organics in EPS, the variances of protein secondary structures were investigated.
