Assessment of Patient Safety and Cultural Competencies among Senior Baccalaureate Nursing Students.

This descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional study examined nursing students' educational experiences on self-reported perceptions of patient safety and cultural competence in terms of curriculum content and learning venues. We performed descriptive analyses and a one-way analysis of variance with a sample of senior-year nursing students (N = 249) attending three state universities in the United States. We used the Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competency Model, the Patient Safety Competency Self-Evaluation Tool for Nursing Students, and The Cultural Competence Assessment Instrument.

Pain Assessment Approaches for Students With Intellectual Disability.

Intellectual disability may affect the access school children have to curriculum and social experiences. While these children often have difficulty with social relationships, academic functioning, and communication, they also may experience pain on a daily basis. Communication difficulties present challenges for school nurses to identify and assess pain in students with intellectual disability.

An Exploratory Study of Bullying Exposure Among School Nurses: Prevalence and Impact.

The frequency and consequences of bullying directed at school nurses (SNs) are poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to describe the prevalence and impact of bullying directed at school nurses, determine predictors of bullying directed at school nurses, and evaluate the individual and organizational impact of exposure to bullying directed at school nurses. School nurses ( = 334) completed an online survey comprised of the Negative Act Questionnaire-Revised, Perceived Stress Scale, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health General Social Survey 2010 Quality of Worklife Module, Michigan Organizational Assessment Questionnaire, and open response items to determine their experiences with, and impact of, bullying.

Implementation of a Smartphone App to Measure and Manage Anxiety in Undergraduate Clinical Nursing Students.

Various causes exist for nursing student anxiety in the clinical setting. There is a need for further intervention research that may be effective to reduce student anxiety related to clinical. The purpose of this pilot research study was to measure and manage anxiety for nursing students in the clinical area with the assistance of a smartphone app.

Background: Nursing students are plagued by test anxiety. Chronic stress, heavy academic workloads, and rigorous progression standards are antecedents of test anxiety in nursing students. The purpose of this article is to identify helpful interventions to decrease test anxiety in prelicensure nursing students.

Work Role Perspectives of Clinical Instructors From Three Countries.

Background: Educational institutions partner with health facilities to provide clinical education, but the impact of these partnerships on clinical instructors is rarely examined.

Method: A cross-sectional study was used to obtain surveys from a convenience sample of clinical instructors (n = 135) working in Israel, Norway, and the United States. The Nursing Clinical Instruction Role Assessment Tool (N-CIRAT) was developed to elicit clinical instructors' perspectives on the importance and nature of their work roles.

Barriers to Civil Academic Work Environments: Experiences of Academic Faculty Leaders.

Faculty-to-faculty incivility negatively affects not only the victim of the uncivil behavior but also the nursing program as a whole. This phenomenological study explored the experiences of academic nurse administrators who have dealt with incivility among and between faculty members. An interpretative approach was used to uncover themes, and suggestions are made for managing faculty-to-faculty incivility.

Faculty to faculty incivility: experiences of novice nurse faculty in academia.

Academic incivility creates a challenging work environment for nursing faculty. Understanding the concept of faculty-to-faculty incivility may enlighten faculty regarding appropriate interpersonal relationships, assist in alleviating uncivil behavior, and improve the likelihood that faculty will remain in nursing education, potentially easing the current nursing faculty shortage. The primary purpose of this study was to describe novice nurse faculty members' lived experiences of faculty-to-faculty incivility.
