Sports-Related Brain Injury and Neurodegeneration in Athletes.

Sports deserve a special place in human life to impart healthy and refreshing wellbeing. However, sports activities, especially contact sports, renders athlete vulnerable to brain injuries. Athletes participating in a contact sport like boxing, rugby, American football, wrestling, and basketball are exposed to traumatic brain injuries (TBI) or concussions.

HAART induced adverse drug reactions: a retrospective analysis at a tertiary referral health care center in India.

Objective: To collect data on suspected adverse drug reactions of HAART therapy; analyze the data; and find out frequency of preventable adverse drug reactions in order to minimize the harm to the patients.

Design: Retrospective study.

Methods: ADR data associated with the use of HAART from November 2005 to December 2007 was collected retrospectively from records of patients using the ART treatment from NACO at a tertiary referral centre under the National Pharmacovigilance Programme.

Tetany: possible adverse effect of bevacizumab.

Background: Bevacizumab a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody was approved in 2004 by US FDA for metastatic colorectal cancer. It is reported to cause potentially serious toxicities including severe hypertension, proteinuria, and congestive heart failure.

Quality check of spontaneous adverse drug reaction reporting forms of different countries.

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are considered as one of the leading causes of death among hospitalized patients. Thus reporting of adverse drug reactions become an important phenomenon. Spontaneous adverse drug reaction reporting form is an essential component and a major tool of the pharmacovigilance system of any country.
