Background: Previous reports on the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Asia have suggested important sex disparities but have been inconsistent in nature. We sought to synthesize available sex-disaggregated CKD prevalence data in Asia to quantify sex disparities in the region.
Methods: We systematically searched MEDLINE and Embase for observational studies involving ≥500 adults who reported sex-disaggregated CKD prevalence data in any of the 26 countries in East, Southeast and South Asia.

Purpose Of Review: Several observational studies have shown that hyperuricemia is associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression and is a potential therapeutic target in people with CKD. This review discusses the results of three recently published placebo-controlled randomized trials evaluating the effect of urate-lowering treatment on the progression of CKD with at least 2 years of follow-up.
Recent Findings: The Febuxostat versus Placebo Randomized Controlled Trial Regarding Reduced Renal Function in Patients with Hyperuricemia Complicated by Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 3 trial evaluated the effect of febuxostat in 443 patients with stage 3 CKD (mean estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] 45 mL/min/1.
Background: Elevated serum urate levels are associated with progression of chronic kidney disease. Whether urate-lowering treatment with allopurinol can attenuate the decline of the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in patients with chronic kidney disease who are at risk for progression is not known.
Methods: In this randomized, controlled trial, we randomly assigned adults with stage 3 or 4 chronic kidney disease and no history of gout who had a urinary albumin:creatinine ratio of 265 or higher (with albumin measured in milligrams and creatinine in grams) or an eGFR decrease of at least 3.
Background: Hypertension is common in pregnant women presenting with aortic coarctation or Takayasu's arteritis. Uncontrolled hypertension leads to increased adverse maternal and neonatal events.
Case Presentation: A 36-year-old gravida 2, para 1 Caucasian woman presented at 9 weeks of gestation with headaches but normal blood pressure.
