HLA Profile of Celiac Disease among First-Degree Relatives from a Tertiary Care Center in North India.

Objective: To study the prevalence of Celiac disease (CD) in first-degree relatives (FDR) of CD children.

Methods: This observational study was performed in FDR (parents and siblings) of consecutive newly diagnosed cases of CD enrolled from January 2011 through March 2012. Screening for CD in FDR was done using IgA tissue transglutaminase (tTG) levels in serum and the seropositive subset underwent upper gastrointestinal (UGI) endoscopy and biopsy to confirm the disease.

Disseminated cryptococcosis with hepatic dysfuction as the initial manifestation in an immunocompetent adult.

Disseminated cryptococcosis is rare in immunocompetent hosts and hepatic manifestations as the presenting feature is further rare. We report a case of disseminated cryptococcosis with hepatic involvement as an initial manifestation in a previously healthy, immunocompetent adult. A young married female presented with progressive jaundice, anorexia, weightloss, cough with expectoration, and hepatosplenomegaly.

Correlation of serology with morphological changes in gastric biopsy in Helicobacter pylori infection and evaluation of immunohistochemistry for H. pylori identification.

Background/aim: Helicobacter pylori is implicated in various gastroduodenal diseases and many tests are available for its detection. The present study attempted to document the morphological changes in the gastric mucosa induced by H. pylori colonization and correlate them with the severity of the infection.

Carcinoma Gall Bladder with Bouveret's Syndrome: A Rare Cause of Gastric Outlet Obstruction.

We describe a case of bouveret's syndrome associated with carcinoma gall bladder. This is probably the second reported case of such an association. Computed tomography detected the calculus in the duodenum but endoscopy could not retrieve it.

Laparoscopic treatment of gastric bezoar.

A seventeen-year-old female presented with a symptomatic abdominal mass that was diagnosed by barium meal and computed tomography to be a gastric bezoar. She underwent laparoscopic removal of the bezoar, through an anterior wall gastrostomy in an endobag, which was extracted piecemeal through a 4-cm upper midline incision. The technique is described with a review of a few previous laparoscopic-assisted cases.
