Silicone oil-induced corneal perforation following complex retinal detachment.

Purpose: To report a case of silicone oil-induced corneal perforation following complex retinal detachment surgery.

Methods: Case report.

Results: Two months following a second retinal detachment repair, the patient presented to eye casualty with a corneal perforation secondary to silicone oil keratopathy.

Cystoid macular oedema in Cogans syndrome-a case report.

Introduction: Cogan's Syndrome is typically characterised by a non syphilitic interstitial keratitis (IK), with or without conjunctivitis, iritis or subconjunctival bleeding and progressive sensorineural hearing loss within two years of ocular signs. Atypical ocular manifestations include episcleritis, scleritis, posterior scleritis, retinal artery occlusion, choroiditis, retinal vasculitis, and optic disc oedema. We report a case of Cogan's syndrome in with recurrent cystoid macular oedema was the main feature.

Sudden visual loss due to posterior ischemic optic neuropathy following craniotomy for a ruptured intracranial aneurysm.

The authors report a rare case of acute ipsilateral blindness that occurred after a standard fronto-temporal craniotomy for aneurysm in supine position. Posterior ischemic optic neuropathy caused by external pressure on the ipsilateral eye, its differentials and subsequent medico-legal implications are discussed.

Alcohol delamination of the corneal epithelium for recalcitrant recurrent corneal erosion syndrome: a prospective study of efficacy and safety.

Aim: To investigate the safety and efficacy of alcohol delamination of the corneal epithelium for recalcitrant recurrent corneal erosion syndrome (RCE) in a prospective non-comparative interventional case series.

Methods: Patients with RCE who remained symptomatic despite topical lubrication and 3-month use of an extended wear (bandage) contact lens were included. The intensity of pain on a scale of 1 to 10, and duration and frequency of attacks were recorded.

Giant cell reparative granuloma of the orbit.

This report describes a case of an orbital giant cell reparative granuloma in an 85-year-old woman. Giant cell reparative granulomas are fibro-osseous benign proliferations typically found in the jawbones and rarely in the orbital bones. All previously described cases in the orbit have been in younger patients, classically in the third to fourth decades.

Lateral tarsal strip and quickert sutures for lower eyelid entropion.

Purpose: To evaluate the long-term outcome of involutional entropion repair by means of a combined procedure of lateral tarsal strip and Quickert everting sutures.

Methods: Noncomparative interventional case series of patients who underwent a combined procedure of lateral tarsal strip and Quickert sutures for treatment of involutional entropion between September 1999 and September 2002. Of 75 patients who underwent surgery, 36 were followed for at least 2 years.
