Co-infections due to leptospira, dengue and hepatitis E: a diagnostic challenge.

A case of mixed infection due to leptospira, dengue and hepatitis E is reported. Similar clinical presentation and simultaneous transmission of these diseases during rainy season can cause substantial misdiagnosis. Serological tests play a mainstay in diagnosis.

Population explosion, frequent travel and urbanization have led to certain changes in the environment, which are conducive for the survival of multiple pathogens and their transmission vehicle in the same niche. Therefore, there are more chances of acquiring multiple infections at the same time with overlapping clinical manifestations. We would like to share a case having concurrent infection with four different agents.

Background: Co-circulation of multiple dengue virus serotypes has been reported from many parts of the world including India, however concurrent infection with more than one serotype of dengue viruses in the same individual is rarely documented.
