Despite the availability of assessment tools like the Biomedical Excellence for Safer Transfusion (BEST) test, there is a need for indigenous-validated questionnaires to address knowledge gaps effectively.

Total Correction for Tetralogy of Fallot in Patients Weighing Over 10 kg: Experiences and Follow-Up Outcomes.

Background Although the recommended time for total correction of tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is during infancy, sometimes TOF cases present to healthcare setups after pre-school age, with some cases presenting even beyond adolescence in developing countries. The objective of this study was to assess patients with TOF weighing 10 kg and above who underwent definitive corrective surgical techniques such as transannular patch (TAP), valve-sparing right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) pericardial patch augmentation, non-ventriculotomy infundibular resection for postoperative complications, hospital stay, and right ventricular (RV) dysfunction in the immediate postoperative period and subsequent outpatient department follow-ups. Methodology This comprehensive, retrospective cohort study included single-center data collected between January 16, 2018, and January 15, 2024.

Introduction: Autoimmune neurological diseases (ANDs) involve the immune system attacking the nervous system, leading to various symptoms. Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is used to remove pathogenic autoantibodies, aiming to improve clinical outcomes.

Methods: This ambispective observational study included 99 patients with ANDs who underwent TPE from January 2018 to June 2022 at a tertiary care center in India.

Background: There is a huge gap between safe blood supply and clinical demand in India and voluntary blood donation camps (BDSs) are vital to address this gap. The study evaluates the challenges faced in organizing remote setting voluntary BDCs and assess the impact of helicopter-flight on the quality of the whole blood units (WBU) and blood components (BC) prepared.

Methods: This is an observational study in which two voluntary BDCs were organised in remote military-based setting in 2021.

Ondansetron-induced QT prolongation among various age groups: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Ondansetron is a selective 5-hydroxytryptamine type 3 serotonin-receptor antagonist with antiemetic properties used inadvertently in the emergency department for controlling nausea. However, ondansetron is linked with a number of adverse effects, including prolongation of the QT interval. Therefore, the purpose of this meta-analysis was to assess the occurrence of QT prolongation in pediatric, adult, and elderly patients receiving oral or intravenously administered ondansetron.

The thalassemia patients who receive multiple transfusions are at an increased risk of TTIs and the Nucleic Acid Test (NAT ) has been advocated for safe blood. Though NAT can reduce the window period compared to serology, cost is a constraint.

Stochasticity causes high β-diversity and functional divergence of bacterial assemblages in closed systems.

Stochasticity is a major cause of compositional β-diversity in communities that develop under similar environmental conditions. Such communities may exhibit functional similarity due to sympatric taxa with equivalent metabolic capacities in the source assemblage. However, the redundancy of individual physiological traits may differ in the original source community, which in turn might lead to more or less pronounced variability of single functions among newly formed communities.

Direct antibody test negative autoimmune hemolytic anemia with pulmonary tuberculosis: A diagnostic challenge.

Tuberculosis (TB) has varied manifestations, but autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) due to TB is rare. Direct antibody test (DAT) or Coombs negative AIHA is also rare. We report a case of a 14-year-old boy who presented with hemolytic anemia and pneumonia.

Successful outcome after timely management of severe fetal anemia with intrauterine transfusion in female with bad obstetric history.

Development of severe fetal anemia due to red cell destruction in intrauterine life, most commonly implicated with hemolytic disease of fetus or newborn. Untreated cases lead to hydrops and even death of newborn. We are reporting a case of severe fetal anaemia successfully delivered after intrauterine transfusion.

The allometric diet breadth model (ADBM) is a food web model based on the foraging theory. In the ADBM, the foraging parameters are allometrically scaled to body sizes of predators and prey.

Surgical management and outcome of left ventricular pseudoaneurysm: our 11-year experience.

Introduction: Left ventricular (LV) pseudoaneurysm is an uncommon condition with a high risk of death due to spontaneous rupture. The symptoms are nonspecific and diagnosis is often delayed. Surgical repair is the treatment of choice despite associated operative mortality.

Short term clinical and echocardiography outcomes of pericardiectomy in constrictive pericarditis.

Tuberculous pericarditis continues to be a leading cause of chronic constrictive pericarditis (CCP) in developing countries. Echocardiography plays a key role in the assessment and diagnosis. Twelve patients who underwent pericardiectomy for CCP in last 18 months of the study period were subjected to clinical and New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class assessment along with comprehensive echocardiographic evaluation.

Paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria (PCH) is an acquired cause of haemolytic anaemia. It is caused by the biphasic IgG antibodies that sensitize and attach the red cells at lower temperature; detach and rebind on rewarming. Donath-Landsteiner antibody test is the diagnostic test for PCH.

Role of Emergency Automated Red Cell Exchange in Sickle Cell Crisis: A Case Report.

For many years main stay of treatment for sickle cell anaemia was transfusion therapy. But repeated transfusions put the patient at risk of iron overload. Automated red cell exchange is an evolving and newer technique which rapidly removes the sickle cells and has benefit in decreasing sickle cell load and related complications.

Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in Parvovirus B19-induced Acute Hepatic Failure.

Unlabelled: Parvovirus B19 has rarely been associated with acute liver failure (ALF), which has a high mortality. Plasma exchange that usually acts as a bridge to liver transplantation removes toxins, antibodies, cytokines, and can correct coagulopathy while maintaining a euvolemic state. Pediatric data regarding its use are scarce.

Activity Wise Unit Cost of Blood Components in a Tertiary Care Hospital Blood Bank for the Year 2018.

The present study on cost of a unit of blood was conducted in blood bank of a tertiary care public hospital with an annual collection of 20,748. A retrospective chart review was done to calculate the activity wise annual unit cost of blood, based on WHO guidelines (Blood Safety Unit. safe blood and blood products: costing blood transfusion services, World Health Organization, Geneva, 1998).

Rare case of Auto immune haemolytic anaemia in an infant with auto "f & kidd antibodies".

Background: "f" antigen is a compound antigen in Rh blood group system. Anti f has haemolytic potential as described in literature. Its occurrence in an infant as autoantibody with another blood group system ie Jka is very rare.
