Several modifications in the glioblastoma genes are caused by epigenetic modifications, which are crucial in appropriate developmental processes such as self-renewal and destiny determination of neural stem cells. Poly (ADP-ribose)polymerase (PARP) is an essential cofactor involved in DNA repair as well as several other cellular functions such as transcription and chromatin shape modification. Inhibiting PARP has evolved for triggering cell damage in cancerous cells when paired with certain other anticancer drugs including temozolomide (TMZ).

The gut microbiome is a complicated ecosystem of around a hundred billion symbiotic bacteria cells. Bidirectional communication between the gut and the brain is facilitated by the immune system, the enteric nervous system, the vagus nerve, and microbial compounds such as tryptophan metabolites and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). The current study emphasises the relationship of the gut-brain axis with cognitive performance and elucidates the underlying biological components, with a focus on neurotransmitters such as serotonin, indole derivatives, and catecholamine.

Introduction: Epilepsy is a chronic disorder associated with profound physical and psychological consequences leading to impaired quality of life (QoL). Evaluation of the QoL among epileptics would throw light on various factors that impair or affect the QoL in such a population.

Aim: To study the QoL among epileptic patients attending outpatient departments of a tertiary care hospital and to identify various factors that affect the QoL in such a population.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated lipid peroxidation and antioxidant levels in ischemic stroke patients (ISPs) both with and without diabetes, focusing on malondialdehyde (MDA) as a marker of oxidative stress.
  • Results showed higher MDA levels in both groups, with ISPs without diabetes experiencing a more significant increase; GSH levels declined more in ISPs with diabetes, indicating reduced antioxidant capacity.
  • Additionally, uric acid and ceruloplasmin levels were higher in both groups, but ceruloplasmin decreased in ISPs with diabetes, highlighting a complex relationship between oxidative stress and diabetes in ischemic stroke patients.
