Neuro-ophthalmological changes have been reported after prolonged exposure to microgravity; however, the pathophysiology remains unclear. Furthermore, several countermeasures have been suggested to counteract the side effects of microgravity. The objectives of the present study were twofold: (1) to assess the neuro-ophthalmological impact of 60 days of head-down bed rest (HDBR) and (2) to determine the potential effects of an antioxidant cocktail.

Its manifestations and impact on health and quality of life and, on a larger scale, at an economic and social level may be very significant, reflecting a challenge for the future. The family doctor plays a major role in the care of these patients and must be aware of this new reality.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTuberculosis is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide due to the growth of multi-drug resistant strains unsusceptible to currently available therapies. Four compounds, isoniazid (INH) and three derivatives, N'-decanoylisonicotinohydrazide (INHC10), N'-(E)-(4-phenoxybenzylidene)isonicotinohydrazide (N34) and N'-(4-phenoxybenzyl)isonicotinohydrazide (N34red), were studied. Owing to their advantageous in vitro selectivity index against the primary mutation responsible for drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), as well as their suitable lipophilicity and interaction with human serum albumin, INHC10 and N34 were deemed promising antitubercular compounds.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAge-related alterations in the immune system are starting to emerge as key contributors to impairments found in aged organs. A decline in regenerative capacity is a hallmark of tissue aging; however, the contribution of immune aging to regenerative failure is just starting to be explored. Here, we apply a strategy combining single-cell RNA sequencing with flow cytometry, histological analysis, and functional assays to perform a complete analysis of the immune environment of the aged regenerating skeletal muscle on a time course following injury with single-cell resolution.

The prevalence of lactose intolerance is one of the factors driving consumers toward plant-based milk alternatives (PBMA). This study aimed to analyze the carbohydrate profile of cows' milk (regular and lactose-free from both pasteurized and UHT milks; n = 80) and PBMA (n = 60) by HPLC. The study revealed that no significant difference was present in the energy content and total carbohydrate content between regular milk and lactose-free milk.

Main Body: This selection of highlights provides commentary on 19 different topics selected by each coauthoring Editorial Board member addressing a variety of aspects ranging from novel radiochemistry to first-in-human application of novel radiopharmaceuticals.
Conclusion: Trends in radiochemistry and radiopharmacy are highlighted.
Positron emission tomography (PET) can provide information about tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) infiltration, as long as a suitable tracer is available. This study aimed to evaluate the radiolabeled peptide [F]AlF-NODA-MP-C6-CTHRSSVVC as a potential PET tracer for imaging of the CD163 receptor, which is expressed on M2-type tumor-associated macrophages. The conjugated peptide NODA-MP-C6-CTHRSSVVC was labeled with aluminum [F]fluoride.

The present study aimed to characterize the lipid profiles of cow's milk ( = 60) and PBMA types (soya, oat, rice, almond, coconut, and hazelnut; = 10 per type). Significant differences were found in the fatty acid (FA) profiles of PBMAs and milk, particularly in FA diversity (15 FAs in PBMAs vs 54 FAs in milk) and the proportion of prime FA groups.

The aim of this research is to create and validate artificial intelligence models based on the original DRASTIC vulnerability methodology to explain groundwater salinization risk (GSR). To this end, several algorithms, such as artificial neural networks (ANN), support vector regression (SVR), and multiple linear regression (MLR), were applied to the Menzel Habib aquifer system.

However, due to existing technical constraints, real-time functional immune assessments are not currently available to crew inflight. The cytokine release assay (CRA) has been effectively employed to study the stimulated cytokine response of immune cells in whole blood albeit limited to pre- and post-flight sessions.

Thermodynamic guidelines are provided for the synthesis of manganese ferrite from (i) oxide and/or metallic precursors; (ii) carbonate + carbonate or carbonate + oxide powder mixtures; (iii) other precursors. It is also shown that synthesis from metallic precursors (Mn + 2Fe) requires a controlled oxygen supply in limited redox conditions, which is hardly achieved by reducing gases H/HO or CO/CO.

Genetic richness evolved by selection and cultural processes in response to different environments, cultural backgrounds, and needs. This review summarized the knowledge on vegetable and maize landraces in South Brazilian and Uruguayan Pampa biome, to design a strategy towards the rediscovery, conservation, and sustainable use.

The purpose of our study was to acquire normative measurements of the tracheobronchial tree of swine by using chest CT scans, thus laying a foundation for treating or studying airway disorders in this species. In our study, 33 male swine underwent thoracic CT scans; we measured anatomic features of the tracheobronchial tree, including the diameter, length, and angle of various airway structures.

Age-related decline in skeletal muscle regenerative capacity is multifactorial, yet the contribution of immune dysfunction to regenerative failure is unknown. Macrophages are essential for effective debris clearance and muscle stem cell activity during muscle regeneration, but the regulatory mechanisms governing macrophage function during muscle repair are largely unexplored. Here, we uncover a new mechanism of immune modulation operating during skeletal muscle regeneration that is disrupted in aged animals and relies on the regulation of macrophage function.

Cow's milk is considered a complete food, providing high-quality protein and essential micronutrients, including vitamins and minerals. For medical reasons or as a lifestyle choice, consumers are replacing cow's milk with plant-based milk alternatives (PBMA); some perceive them as healthier alternatives to cow's milk due to their low saturated fatty acid content and no cholesterol content. However, the nutritional composition of PBMA is quite variable between different types and even within, which makes a comparison with cow's milk a complex issue.

Groundwater is the main source to answer the irrigation supply in several arid and semi-arid areas. In the present work, groundwater quality for irrigation purposes in the arid region of Menzel Habib (Tunisia) for thirty-six groundwater samples is assessed considering the application of different conventional water quality indicators, particularly, electrical conductivity (EC), sodium absorption ratio (SAR), soluble sodium percentage (SSP), magnesium adsorption ratio (MAR), Kelly ratio (KR), and permeability index (PI). The results obtained indicate a variability for EC: 3.
