: In the last decades, dental implant surfaces have been evolving to increase success and implant survival rates. More studies evaluating outcomes with implants with ultra-hydrophilic multi-zone anodized surfaces are necessary. The aim of this study is to evaluate the short-term outcome of implants of conical connection with anodized ultra-hydrophilic surfaces for support of single teeth and partial rehabilitations.

Innovative absolute probability approach for coastal vulnerability assessment due to sea level rise: Application in Tagus Estuary, Portugal.

In coastal urban areas highly susceptible to flooding, whether from sea level rise (SLR) or storms, it is crucial to assess the vulnerability and risks posed by extreme and frequent floods. Reliable estimates of extreme natural events' return periods rely on historical data or probabilistic models, requiring extensive and robust data. From climate-scenario-based or semi-empirical models, SLR projections are represented by a central estimate or the full domain cumulative density function (CDF), entailing uncertainties.

Preclinical studies on the antitumor and non-toxic effect of combining pirfenidone with vinorelbine and carboplatin in non-small cell lung cancer.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) shows limited therapeutic response to vinorelbine and carboplatin. Combining these drugs with an antifibrotic drug may enhance their antitumor effect. Pirfenidone is an antifibrotic drug whose antitumor activity has been described in different types of cancer.

Mechanical Behaviour of Green Epoxy Composites Reinforced with Sheep and Dog Wool from Serra Da Estrela.

Environmental awareness has led industries and consumers to replace products derived from oil resources with products derived from natural sources. In the case of the composite materials industry, the replacement of synthetic fibres with natural fibres has increased in recent years. To study the influence that different types of natural fibres and different textile manufacturing techniques have on the mechanical properties of composites, bio-based epoxy matrix composites reinforced with different natural animal fibres were produced, some reinforced with sheep's wool and others with dog wool, which were later subjected to bending and tensile tests.

Airborne DNA: State of the art - Established methods and missing pieces in the molecular genetic detection of airborne microorganisms, viruses and plant particles.

Bioaerosol is composed of different particles, originating from organisms, or their fragments with different origin, shape, and size. Sampling, analysing, identification and describing this airborne diversity has been carried out for over 100 years, and more recently the use of molecular genetic tools has been implemented. However, up to now there are no established protocols or standards for detecting airborne diversity of bacteria, fungi, viruses, pollen, and plant particles.

Developing and validation of a smartphone app for post-discharge early follow-up after colorectal cancer surgeries.

Background: Colorectal surgeries are complex procedures associated with high rates of complications and hospital readmission.

Objective: This study aimed to develop an electronic post-discharge follow-up plan to remotely monitor patients' symptoms in the postoperative period of colorectal surgeries and evaluate the outcomes of emergency department visits and the rate of severe complications within 15 days after hospital discharge.

Design: We developed a digital tool capable of remotely assessing symptoms that could indicate complications related to colorectal surgical procedures and directing early management.

Assessing the Potential of 1,2,3-Triazole-Dihydropyrimidinone Hybrids Against Cholinesterases: In Silico, In Vitro, and In Vivo Studies.

Combining the pharmacological properties of the 1,2,3-triazole and dihydropyrimidinone classes of compounds, two small families of mono- and di(1,2,3-triazole)-dihydropyrimidinone hybrids, A and B, were previously synthesized. The main objective of this work was to investigate the potential anti-Alzheimer effects of these hybrids. The inhibitory activities of cholinesterases (AChE and BuChE), antioxidant activity, and the inhibitory mechanism through in silico (molecular docking) and in solution (STD-NMR) experiments were evaluated.

Ectopic Craniopharyngioma Recurrence: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Craniopharyngiomas are tumors of the central nervous system, typically located in the sellar/parasellar region. Despite being benign, they behave aggressively due to their propensity to invade nearby important structures, making total resection challenging. Distant spread of craniopharyngioma is a rare but significant complication.

Ultrasound assessment of muscle mass in critically ill patients: A correlation with nutritional support and clinical outcomes.

Background: Critically ill patients are at high risk of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Acquired weakness, which negatively impacts clinical outcomes. Traditional muscle mass and nutritional status assessments are often impractical in the ICU. Ultrasound offers a promising, non-invasive alternative.

European pollen reanalysis, 1980-2022, for alder, birch, and olive.

The dataset presents a 43 year-long reanalysis of pollen seasons for three major allergenic genera of trees in Europe: alder (Alnus), birch (Betula), and olive (Olea). Driven by the meteorological reanalysis ERA5, the atmospheric composition model SILAM predicted the flowering period and calculated the Europe-wide dispersion pattern of pollen for the years 1980-2022. The model applied an extended 4-dimensional variational data assimilation of in-situ observations of aerobiological networks in 34 European countries to reproduce the inter-annual variability and trends of pollen production and distribution.

Trends in land cover and in pollen concentration of Quercus genus in Alentejo, Portugal: Effects of climate change and health impacts.

Mediterranean forests dominated by Quercus species are of great ecological and economic value. The Quercus pollen season, peaking in April, varies in concentration due to geographical and climatic factors and has a remarkable allergenic potential. This study investigates Quercus trends in the Alentejo region of Portugal and examines the influence of meteorological parameters on DPC, PSD and SPIn, as well as the impact on allergic respiratory disease.

The use of naltrexone in the treatment of chronic pain: a systematic review.

This study aims to assess the efficacy of low-dose naltrexone (LDN) in treating chronic pain. We conducted a systematic review using the PICO strategy: (P) Patients with chronic pain, (I) Use of oral naltrexone, (C) Placebo or active drug and (O) Pain relief and quality of life. We included articles from PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane CENTRAL and EMBASE databases.

Mothers' Adverse Childhood Experiences Moderate the Association between Maternal Anger and Children's Externalizing Symptoms.

Background/objectives: This study examined the association between maternal anger, children's externalizing symptoms, and the moderating impact of maternal adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in the context of intimate partner violence (IPV). The primary objective was to investigate whether maternal ACEs alter the link between maternal anger and children's externalizing symptoms, guided by theoretical frameworks such as the stress sensitization and stress steeling models.

Methods: A sample of 159 Portuguese mothers exposed to IPV participated in the study, completing a protocol of self-report measures.

Estuaries are among the most sensitive systems to climate change. Previous studies have suggested that the Sado Estuary (Portugal) has decreasing trends for water temperature, which is uncommon in a global warming scenario. However, no long-term analysis regarding water column conditions has been conducted on this estuary to date.

Five- and 18-Year Outcome of Two Cases with Full-Arch Rehabilitations Ad modum All-on-4 in the Presence of Challenging Conditions.

Placing implants in fresh postextraction sites is a borderline rehabilitation procedure. The purpose of this report is to describe the pre-, per-, and postoperative procedures for maintaining long-term stability of two full-arch rehabilitations through the All-on-4 protocol, performed in the presence of challenging conditions. Two patients were referred for full-arch rehabilitation with immediate function, with both patients presenting infection in the jaws: patient 1 with an implant (position #45) inserted in a cystic cavity; patient 2 with one implant (position #24) inserted transsinus after the removal of a cyst on the base of the maxillary sinus and another implant (position #15) inserted with a dehiscence.

Effects of circuit training and Yoga on biochemical and psychological responses to stress and cardiovascular markers: A randomized clinical trial with nursing and medical students in Southern Brazil.

A Randomized Controlled Trial involving 158 Brazilian medical and nursing students assessed one of three conditions over an 8-week period: 1) a circuit training protocol (CTG); 2) a yoga protocol (YG); or 3) no intervention (CG). The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of circuit training and yoga protocols in reducing perceived mental stress and examining their effects on serum cortisol levels, as well as on traditional cardiovascular risk factors (CRFs), during an academic semester. Mental stress was measured using self-reported stress questionnaires.

Partial Implant Rehabilitations in the Posterior Regions of the Jaws Supported by Short Dental Implants (7.0 mm): A 7-Year Clinical and 5-Year Radiographical Prospective Study.

: Short implants have been used in the restoration of edentulous jaws in the past several years. However, some studies have suggested that short implants are less successful than standard implants. The aim of this study is to investigate the outcome of short implants placed in the posterior maxilla or mandible following one-stage or immediate-function protocols with a follow-up of 7 years (clinically) and 5 years (radiographically).

Long-term monitoring of the fish community in the Minho Estuary (NW Iberian Peninsula).

Background: The paper presents an extensive fish sampling dataset spanning a long-term period from 2010 to 2019. The data were collected in Lenta Marina, an upstream area in the Minho Estuary of the NW Iberian Peninsula, which belongs to a LTSER (Long-Term Socio-Ecological Research) platform. To capture fish, fyke nets were utilised as the sampling method and deployed at Lenta Marina.

Characterization of novel aurantiactinomyxon types (Cnidaria, Myxosporea) from the oligochaete Ilyodrilus templetoni (Southern, 1909), with a comprehensive phylogeny of the collective group.

Three new aurantiactinomyxon types are described from the oligochaete Ilyodrilus templetoni (Southern, 1909) (Naididae) collected from a northern Portuguese estuary, based on light microscopy and sequencing of the 18S rDNA. The addition of I. templetoni to the group of freshwater annelids known to be permissive for aurantiactinomyxon development reinforces the crucial role of naidids in the evolution and settlement of myxozoans in estuarine environments.

Quercetin-1,2,3-Triazole Hybrids as Multifunctional Anti-Alzheimer's Agents.

The number of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) continues to rise and, despite the efforts of researchers, there are still no effective treatments for this multifaceted disease. The main objective of this work was the search for multifunctional and more effective anti-Alzheimer agents. Herein, we report the evaluation of a library of quercetin-1,2,3-triazole hybrids () in antioxidant, hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress protection, and cholinesterases (AChE and BuChE) inhibitory activities.
