Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the treatment outcomes for patients with significant osteochondral injuries resulting from acute traumatic patella dislocation, using a combined approach of early fragment fixation and medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction.
  • A total of 19 patients participated, showing promising results with high satisfaction rates (89.5%) and improved scores on various functional assessment metrics (Lysholm, Kujala, KOOS-PF) at a follow-up of about 15.8 months.
  • Key findings included a mean defect size of 2.4 cm, with most injuries located on the patella, and a satisfactory cartilage quality assessment using the MOCART 2.0 score; however, some

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the effectiveness of combining intra-articular hip injections with a structured rehabilitation program for patients suffering from femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) symptoms lasting over six months.
  • Out of 49 recruited patients, 31.8% ultimately required surgical intervention within two years, mainly due to dissatisfaction or recurring symptoms, highlighting the importance of patient-reported outcomes.
  • The findings suggest that patients considering therapy, especially those experiencing severe pain soon after the injection, may benefit from a more comprehensive treatment approach, as those who did not require surgery reported significantly better outcomes.

Background: Multiply revised total knee arthroplasties (TKAs) may present with large anterior soft tissue defects, which can be challenging to reconstruct. In the rare cases where local flaps are insufficient, we use free latissimus dorsi (LD) myocutaneous flaps to achieve soft tissue coverage. This study looked to determine implant survivorship, infection status, and patient-reported outcomes of patients undergoing simultaneous revision TKA and LD flaps in a tertiary unit.

Traumatic anterior instability of the shoulder is commonly treated with the Latarjet procedure, which involves transfer of the coracoid process with a conjoint tendon to the anterior aspect of the glenoid. The two most common techniques of the Latarjet are the classical and congruent arc techniques. The aim of this study was to evaluate the difference in force required to dislocate the shoulder after classical and congruent arc Latarjet procedures were performed.

Background: We aimed to determine the degree of contracture in the ring and little fingers at which hand function became importantly impaired.

Methods: Five activities of daily living were incorporated into a newly developed and validated Dupuytren's assessment tool (DAT). Sixty healthy participants were assessed with the DAT wearing a range of 12 dorsal blocking splints.

Background: Osteoarthritic shoulders are mainly associated with glenoid retroversion. Total shoulder arthroplasty with the glenoid component implanted in retroversion predisposes to loosening of the glenoid prosthesis. Correction of glenoid retroversion through anterior eccentric reaming, before glenoid component implantation, is performed to restore normal joint biomechanics.

We present the case of a 44-year-old patient who crushed her ring finger in a door 4 months earlier. She was treated in the community for her chronic fingertip wound/pyogenic granuloma. As the lesion was not healing with regular wound management she was eventually referred to secondary care for an opinion.
