Clinical diagnoses and autopsy findings: a retrospective analysis of 252 cases in Greece.

Context: Despite medical and technologic advances, clinicians may misdiagnose a patient's situation and the cause of death. Autopsy may be valuable in uncovering the most frequent diagnostic pitfalls and helping clinicians to learn and to develop the medical art and science.

Objective: To compare the clinical diagnoses with postmortem findings and evaluate the frequency of diagnostic errors assessed by autopsies.

Glucocorticoid receptor (GR) immunohistochemical expression is correlated with cell cycle-related molecules in human colon cancer.

The aim of this study was to examine glucocorticoid receptor (GR) immunohistochemical expression in colon cancer histopathological specimens and to correlate it with clinicopathological parameters, tumor proliferative capacity, cell cycle-related molecule expression, and patients' survival. Primary tumoral samples from 91 colon cancer patients were immunostained for the detection of GR, cyclins D1 and E, Rb protein (pRb), p16, p21, and Ki-67, using the streptavidin-biotin-peroxidase technique. GR expression was correlated with tumor histopathological characteristics and proliferative capacity, cell cycle-related molecule expression, and patients' survival.

The toxicology of honey bee poisoning.

The use of insecticides continues to be a basic tool in pest management, since there are many pest situations for which there are no known alternative management methods. However, the harmful effects of insecticides against beneficial Insects continuous to be a serious problem. Poisoning of bee pollinators is a serious adverse effect of insecticide use which leads to a decrease in insect population, to reduction of honey yields, to destruction of plant communities, to insecticide residues in food, and to a significant loss of beekeepers' income.

Expression of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-gamma in non-small cell lung carcinoma: correlation with histological type and grade.

Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptor-gamma (PPAR-gamma) is a ligand-activated transcription factor belonging to the steroid receptor superfamily. It is a key regulator of adipogenic differentiation and glucose homeostasis, the ligands of which have also been demonstrated to induce differentiation in human breast, lung and colon cancer cell lines. In the present study, PPAR-gamma expression in cases of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) was examined immunohistochemically and was correlated with tumor histological type and grade.
