Intra-articular injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and hyaluronic acid (HA) represent efficacious medical treatments for osteoarthritis (OA), although no comparative study on long-term efficacy in hip OA exists. The goals of the current study were to compare the clinical efficacy of PRP vs HA at 12 months of follow-up in patients with hip OA and evaluate the influence of the type of infiltration and patient age, sex, body mass index, and degree of OA on temporal clinical evolution. One hundred patients with chronic unilateral symptomatic hip OA were consecutively enrolled and randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups: group A received PRP and group B received HA administered via intra-articular ultrasound-guided injections.

Patient-specific instrumentation systems are entering into clinical practice in total knee replacement, but validation tests have yet to determine the accuracy of replicating computer-based plans during surgery. We performed a fluoroscopic analysis to assess the final implant location with respect to the corresponding preoperative plan. Forty-four patients were analyzed after using a patient-specific system based on CT and MRI.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to assess and compare the accuracy of two different patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) systems for total knee replacement, both intra-operatively for bone preparation and post-operatively for final component alignment.

Methods: Twenty-five patients were treated according to a computer tomography (CT)-based PSI system (group A) and 25 to a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/X-ray-based system (group B). Alignments on the three anatomical planes and resection thickness at the cutting blocks and at the resulting bone cuts were recorded intra-operatively by a standard surgical navigation system.

Purpose: The aim of our study is to compare the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and viscosupplementation (hyaluronic acid [HA]) intra-articular injections for the treatment of knee cartilage degenerative lesions and osteoarthritis (OA).

Methods: The study involved 150 patients affected by cartilage degenerative lesions and early and severe OA. Fifty symptomatic patients were treated with 3 autologous PRP intra-articular injections and were evaluated prospectively at enrollment and at 2- and 6-month follow-up.

Purpose: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a simple, low-cost and minimally invasive method that provides a natural concentrate of autologous blood growth factors (GFs) that can be used to enhance tissue regeneration. In a previous analysis of a 12-month follow-up study, promising results were obtained when treating patients affected by knee degeneration with PRP intra-articular injections. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the persistence of the beneficial effects observed.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a natural concentrate of autologous blood growth factors experimented in different fields of medicine in order to test its potential to enhance tissue regeneration. The aim of our study is to explore this novel approach to treat degenerative lesions of articular cartilage of the knee. One hundred consecutive patients, affected by chronic degenerative condition of the knee, were treated with PRP intra-articular injections (115 knees treated).
