: Recurrence prediction for patients with PC and tumor sizes ranging between 1 and 4 cm, classified as T1b and T2, remains a controversial problem. We evaluated which risk factors, identified during the primary tumor surgery, might play a prognostic role in predicting disease progression. : We retrospectively enrolled 363 patients with classic PC who were in follow-up (207 T1b, 156 T2), with tissue risk factors at surgery in 209/363 cases.

Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen Radioligand Therapy in Non-Prostate Cancers: Where Do We Stand?

Introduction: The term theragnostic refers to the combination of a predictive imaging biomarker with a therapeutic agent. The promising application of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-based radiopharmaceuticals in the imaging and treatment of prostate cancer (PCa) patients opens the way to investigate a possible role of PSMA-based radiopharmaceuticals in cancers beyond the prostate. Therefore, the aim of this review was to evaluate the role of Lu-PSMA radioligand therapy (RLT) in malignancies other than prostate cancer by evaluating preclinical, clinical studies, and ongoing clinical trials.

Survival as a clinical outcome and its spiritual significance in a cohort of patients with advanced central pelvic neoplastic disease undergoing total pelvic evisceration: a poorly debated issue.

Background: Patients with either treatment-resistant or relapsing advanced central pelvic neoplastic disease present with a condition responsible for debilitating symptoms and consequently poor quality of life (QoL). For these patients, therapeutic strategies are very limited and total pelvic evisceration is the only option for relieving the symptoms and increasing survival. Of note, taking charge of these patients cannot be limited to increasing their lifespan but must also be aimed at improving the clinical, psychological, and spiritual conditions.

Cardioprotective factors against myocardial infarction selected in vivo from an AAV secretome library.

Therapies for patients with myocardial infarction and heart failure are urgently needed, in light of the breadth of these conditions and lack of curative treatments. To systematically identify previously unidentified cardioactive biologicals in an unbiased manner in vivo, we developed cardiac FunSel, a method for the systematic, functional selection of effective factors using a library of 1198 barcoded adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors encoding for the mouse secretome. By pooled vector injection into the heart, this library was screened to functionally select for factors that confer cardioprotection against myocardial infarction.

Two-particle anomalous diffusion: probability density functions and self-similar stochastic processes.

Two-particle dispersion is investigated in the context of anomalous diffusion. Two different modelling approaches related to time subordination are considered and unified in the framework of self-similar stochastic processes. By assuming a single-particle fractional Brownian motion and that the two-particle correlation function decreases in time with a power law, the particle relative separation density is computed for the cases with time sub-ordination directed by a unilateral M-Wright density and by an extremal Lévy stable density.

Preliminary data of different methods for the indirect diagnosis of Mycobacterium bovis infection.

We compared the response induced by QuantiFERON-TB Gold antigens to that obtained with the Intradermal Comparative Tuberculin Test and BOVIGAM assay. Our results showed that the QuantiFERON-TB Gold technique used in humans could also be applied for the diagnosis of TB infection in cattle.

Identification of mycobacterial infections in wild boars in Northern Sardinia, Italy.

During a six-month period a region of Northern Sardinia was monitored to check the presence of mycobacterial infections in wild boars. Forty-eight serum and 229 biopsy samples were collected from different animals and examined by both traditional diagnostic techniques (culture, bacterioscopic and molecular tests) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The latter was used to determine the antibody response against both methylated and nonmethylated Heparin-Binding Haemagglutinin (HBHA) protein.

Cerebrovascular effects of cilostazol in patients with atherosclerotic disease.

Background: Cilostazol is a potent selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase-3 of proven efficacy in intermittent claudication. It has antiplatelet effect and produces vasodilatation in several vascular territories. This drug has been approved in some countries for the prevention of recurrence of cerebral infarction.
