Intravenous iron supplementation is increasingly used to safely and effectively correct iron deficiency anemia, but some formulations are linked to a renal phosphate wasting syndrome which is mediated by fibroblast growth factor 23. Unawareness among prescribers and the nonspecific clinical symptoms of hypophosphatemia result in underreporting of this complication. Even though it is often an asymptomatic and self-limiting condition, accumulating evidence from case reports and dedicated randomized controlled trials show that IV iron induced hypophosphatemia may be associated with clinical symptoms.

The relationship between these factors and "free" T remains unclear. We examined 21 sociodemographic, lifestyle, and medical predictors influencing calculated free T (cFT) in community-dwelling men across ages.

Materials And Methods: This was a single-center, real-world, retrospective comparative study of 307 patients treated in a single vascular surgery unit between 2014 and 2018. The follow-up protocol consisted of Doppler US performed at 1, 6, and 12 months and annually thereafter.
Background: Current literature and a real-world study suggest that diroximel fumarate (DRF) is safer than dimethyl fumarate (DMF) in the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS). However, no real-world study to date has significantly addressed the efficacy of this treatment.
Objectives: This study aims to elucidate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of DRF in a real-world setting, utilizing data from a Spanish national registry of patients commencing DRF therapy post-market introduction.

Purpose Of Review: Due to technical requirements and high cost, equilibrium dialysis-free testosterone (T) measurements are not commonly available in clinical practice. Clinicians rely on calculated free T (cFT) as a proxy. This review discusses using free T as a second-line assessment, highlighting its relevance in preventing misdiagnosis and overtreatment of male hypogonadism.

The effect on pregnant women undergoing induction of labor is still unclear. This study aimed to test the hypothesis that in nulliparous women with singleton pregnancies, undergoing induction of labor at term, listening to music would reduce the pain level during labor.

Its clinical presentation often resembles infectious ventriculitis, characterized by altered cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) parameters, including low glucose levels, elevated protein concentrations, and increased white blood cell counts predominantly comprising eosinophils.
Observations: The authors report the case of an 18-month-old male who experienced recurrent shunt malfunction linked to CSF changes indicative of infectious ventriculitis.
Sterile inflammation is involved in the lung pathogenesis induced by respirable particles, including micro- and nanoplastics. Their increasing amounts in the ambient and in indoor air pose a risk to human health. In two human cell lines (A549 and THP-1) we assessed the proinflammatory behavior of polystyrene nanoplastics (nPS) and microplastics (mPS) (Ø 0.

However, controversy surrounds the global practice of prescribing testosterone to symptomatic men with low testosterone and non-gonadal factors reducing health status, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and ageing (ie, functional hypogonadism), but without identifiable HPT axis pathology. Health optimisation remains the gold-standard management strategy.

Accumulation of α-synuclein (αSYN) in Lewy bodies is a key pathological feature of PD. Although the exact cause of PD remains unknown, accumulating evidence suggests that brain infiltration of T cells plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of disease, contributing to neuroinflammation and dopaminergic neurodegeneration.

We aimed to assess the burden of COVID-19 in the pediatric population at Hospital Central de Maputo and identify comorbidities and factors associated with death among hospitalized COVID-19 cases. A cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2020 to October 2022.

We sought to provide local evidence of SARS-CoV-2 exposure in school-aged children during in-class teaching in Maputo City and Province, Mozambique.
Methods: Between August and November 2022, we performed a cross-sectional study in school-aged children in four schools in rural, peri-urban, and urban areas of Maputo City and Province.
Diabetic macular edema (DME), defined as retinal thickening near, or involving the fovea caused by fluid accumulation in the retina, can lead to vision impairment and blindness in patients with diabetes. Current knowledge of retina anatomy and function and DME pathophysiology has taken great advantage of the availability of several techniques for visualizing the retina. Combining these techniques in a multimodal imaging approach to DME is recommended to improve diagnosis and to guide treatment decisions.

Introduction: Alterations of scapular kinematics are generically reported as scapular dyskinesis (SD), and are a nonspecific response to various shoulder pathologies. The most widely used classification is Kibler's (K), which is, however, characterized by poor sensitivity. To overcome this limit, using a 3D motion analysis system, we identified a specific pattern for each type of SD according to Kibler.

Asymptomatic PCD patients are generally advised to continue on a gluten-containing diet (GCD), but long-term risks of this approach have never been explored. In the present study, we aimed to investigate nutritional and autoimmune complications possibly developing overtime in a cohort of asymptomatic PCD children on a GCD.

A clinical state of "PRL deficiency" has not been defined except in relation to lactation. Using data from the European Male Ageing Study (EMAS), we analyzed the distribution of PRL in 3,369 community-dwelling European men, aged 40-80 years at phase-1 and free from acute illnesses.

Although much studied, recognized to be ethically imperative, and recommended in international health policies, it remains poorly implemented. In the Philippines, there are limited studies on patient decision making preferences and SDM.

Objective: Epilepsy is one of the most prevalent chronic neurological diseases, presenting a high frequency of psychiatric disorders (PD). This study sought to evaluate the clinical and sociodemographic profile of patients with epilepsy (PWE) attended at a regional reference psychiatric emergency unit.
Methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional, and descriptive observational study was conducted utilizing a patient record database of individuals with epilepsy who were attended in a regional reference psychiatric emergency unit between January 2018 and August 2022.
We describe the case of a 45-year-old female affected by asthma and nasal polyposis who presented to the emergency department because of worsening dyspnea and paresthesia of the left lower limb. Comprehensive instrumental examinations revealed the presence of severe left ventricle dysfunction, intra-cardiac thrombus, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, lung infiltrates, polyserositis, and neurological involvements. Finally, the patient was diagnosed with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), formerly Churg-Strauss syndrome, a rare vasculitis of small-medium blood vessels with several organ involvements.

Using results from large cohort studies we explore sources of biological and technical variance, and establish a reference range for adult men. It is constitutively secreted with little within-individual variation and reflects testicular capacity to produce testosterone.
