Background: Child-rearing is challenging for adolescent mothers at risk of providing limited care to their children because of the challenges and demands of simultaneously being an adolescent and a mother. Children aged 0-2 years depend on caregivers like their young mothers to promote their physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth and development.

Objective: The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Child-rearing Information Booklet (CRIB) among adolescent mothers with children aged 0-2 years on the three dimensions of knowledge, attitude, and practices.

Background: Communication is an important aspect in making patients competent to define, process, and manage their disease condition as well as to intercept and satisfy psychosocial needs. Communication between patient and nurse is central to the learning and orientating process since the nurse has the greatest frequency and continuity of relationship with patients and their families. This study aims to investigate the quality of communication between patient and nurse and the factors that promote or hinder effective communication from the oncology patient's perspective within an inpatient hospital setting.

The Community-based Participatory Research (CBPR) model fosters equitable partnerships between communities and academic institutions to promote health equity. This model emphasizes shared control over all phases of the research process and recognizes the limited power and inequalities experienced by marginalized communities. At our institution, Community Engagement Liaison Specialists (CELS) build relationships with New Mexico communities, guided by CBPR principles.

Article Synopsis
  • Age-related changes in the brain impact sleep quality, particularly through alterations in slow-wave sleep properties, though the exact reasons for these changes remain unclear.
  • The study modifies an existing brain model to simulate slow-wave sleep, starting with a connectome representative of younger brains and progressively reducing inter-hemispheric connections.
  • The model successfully replicates key observations, such as shorter and more variable slow waves, and suggests that reduced synchrony between brain regions contributes to the decrease in amplitude of these waves.

Diamond is a potential host material for laser applications due to its exceptional thermal properties, ultrawide bandgap, and color centers, which promise gain across the visible spectrum. More recently, coherent laser methods offer improved sensitivity for magnetometry. However, diamond fabrication is difficult in comparison to other crystalline matrices, and many optical loss channels are not yet understood.

A general mathematical description of how the brain sequentially encodes knowledge remains elusive. We propose a linear solution for serial learning tasks, based on the concept of mixed selectivity in high-dimensional neural state spaces. In our framework, neural representations of items in a sequence are projected along a "geometric" mental line learned through classical conditioning.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the causes of infections in patients with febrile neutropenia (FN) and evaluates different microbiological testing methods used for diagnosis in a hospital setting.
  • Conducted at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona over two years, it analyzed 4520 tests from 462 FN episodes, revealing a 10% positivity rate and showing that bacterial and viral infections are significant contributors.
  • The findings highlight a high rate of documented infections at FN onset, with bacterial infections being common but also emphasize the need for improved management strategies for viral infections, alongside a call for better diagnostic approaches to enhance cost-effectiveness.

Background: The voluntary interruption of pregnancy (VIP) remains one of the most contentious issues worldwide, subject to different legal frameworks and cultural interpretations. Access to VIP is considered a fundamental right for women, recognized by international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and supported by the United Nations. It is estimated that 40-50 million abortions are performed each year, of which about 75% are in developing countries.

Background: Telemedicine is a method of providing remote services in compliance with data security, with a significant positive impact on healthcare, in which Teleradiology means the electronic transmission of radiographic images from one geographical area to another. In this context, the term "telemanagement" shows a real remote management of a diagnostic examination, concluded by the production of telereport and telediagnosis.

Background: The incidence of myocardial infarction (MI) and sudden cardiac death (SCD) is significantly higher in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) than in the general population. Strategies for the prevention of fatal arrhythmias are often insufficient, highlighting the need for additional non-invasive diagnostic tools. The T-wave heterogeneity (TWH) index measures variations in ventricular repolarization and has emerged as a promising predictor for severe ventricular arrhythmias.

We describe a rare case of severe primary spondylitis caused by in a 45-year-old immunocompetent woman with no relevant comorbidities. The surgical site infection arose after a L4-L5 microdiscectomy and resulted in severe clinical disability. Allegations of possible negligence as the cause prompted a forensic review to clarify the original source and transmission of this uncommon pathogen, which dismissed its cause as due to malpractice during treatment.

Chest-wall perforator-based techniques to replace volume for breast conservative therapy allow excision of large breast areas with minimal sequalae, such as the nipple-areolar complex displacement, parenchymal indentation or contour deformity. Furthermore, chest wall perforator flaps facilitate the maintenance of breast symmetry, hence decreasing the need for contralateral surgery. Lateral intercostal flap was described in numerous variants among which the most famous are the propeller flap and the turnover version.
