Sphenoid Meningoencephalocele Correction Through a Transpterygoid Approach.

Sphenoid meningoencephaloceles are rare, and their treatment is challenging. In this report, we describe two clinical cases of sphenoid meningoencephalocele, in which one patient presented with a cerebrospinal fluid leak after repeated head trauma, while in the other, sphenoid meningoencephalocele was detected during the study of memory impairment as the patient was otherwise asymptomatic. The CT scans showed bony dehiscence on the lateral wall of the sphenoid sinus filled with soft tissue that was confirmed by MRI as being herniated brain tissue.

Prospective Evaluation of the Efficacy of Isolated Balloon Eustachian Tuboplasty: Short- and Medium-term Follow-up Results Based on Tubomanometry, ETDQ-7, Tympanometry, and Valsalva Maneuver.

 Balloon eustachian tuboplasty (BET) allows the treatment of the main etiology of eustachian tube disfunction (ETD).  To evaluate the efficacy of isolated BET, through objective and subjective results, in the short and medium term, in patients with chronic obstructive ETD.  Adult patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive ETD who underwent BET between January 2018 and December 2020 were enrolled in the study.

Extra-skeletal Ewing's sarcoma of the frontal sinus: a rare disorder in pediatric age.

Paediatric sinonasal tumours comprise numerous aetiologies. Ewing's sarcoma (ES) consists of a malignancy of neuroectodermal origin. This type of sarcoma affects mainly children and adolescents and can assume the skeletal or extra-skeletal form.

Cat-scratch Disease with Parinaud's Oculoglandular Syndrome.

Cat-scratch disease (CSD) is one of the most common causes of infectious cervicofacial lymphadenopathies in children, adolescents, and young adults. With this case report, we highlight the wide spectrum of atypical manifestations of CSD in an elderly patient who presented not only with cervicofacial lymphadenopathies but also parotid enlargement, and Parinaud's oculoglandular syndrome which comprises granulomatous nonsuppurative conjunctivitis with adjacent ipsilateral preauricular lymphadenopathy. A high index of suspicion is needed to correctly diagnose and treat this clinical entity.

Management of pediatric peritonsillar and deep neck infections- cross- sectional retrospective analysis.

Objective: Deep neck infections (DNI) are responsible for significant morbidity in children and healthcare expenditures. Few studies exist specifically addressing the clinical and epidemiologic characterization and management of DNI's in the pediatric population. Our goal was to analyse the demographic characteristics, clinical presentation, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches of peritonsillar and DNI in pediatric patients.

Predictors of High-cost Patients With Noninfectious Inflammatory Eye Diseases.

Purpose: Noninfectious inflammatory eye diseases (NIIEDs), such as uveitis, is a general term used to describe a complex mix of acute, chronic, allergic, and inflammatory disorders. Prior literature has established that, in addition to severe clinical burden, NIIEDs is associated with significant economic burden for US payers; however, no literature provides a current estimate of the economic burden associated with patients with high-cost NIIEDs. This study aimed to better understand the cost and resource use distribution and predictors of patients with high-cost NIIEDs.

Retrospective Medical Record Review to Describe Use of Repository Corticotropin Injection Among Patients with Uveitis in the United States.

Introduction: Repository corticotropin injection (RCI) has immune-modulatory and anti-inflammatory effects and is approved for multiple indications, including severe and acute chronic allergic and inflammatory processes involving the eye and adnexa. This study describes patient characteristics, treatment patterns, and physicians' assessments of patients with uveitis treated with RCI.

Methods: This was a retrospective medical record review of US patients.

Objective To describe the experience of planning and developing online refresher courses in nursing management for nurses in the contexts of Brazil and Portugal. Quantitative research that aimed to identify the mean total cost (MTC) of connecting, maintaining and disconnecting patient-controlled analgesia pump (PCA) in the management of pain. The non-probabilistic sample corresponded to the observation of 81 procedures in 17 units of the Central Institute of the Clinics Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sao Paulo. We calculated the MTC multiplying by the time spent by nurses at a unit cost of direct labor, adding the cost of materials and medications/solutions.

[Standardization of activities in an oncology surgical center according to nursing intervention classification].

This study was undertaken in a surgical center specializing in oncology, and it aimed to identify nursing activities performed during the perioperative period and to classify and validate intervention activities according to the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC). A survey of activities was conducted using records and by direct observation of nursing care across four shifts. Activities were classified as NIC nursing interventions using the cross-mapping technique.
