Endoscopic management of hernia repair fixing tacks embedded in the bladder wall: A case report.

Background: Migration of fixing tacks into the bladder wall is a rare complication following laparoscopic hernia repairs.

Case Presentation: This report detailed an 80-year-old male who presented to the clinic with hematuria. Cystoscopy revealed a bladder calculus adherent to the bladder wall, with an underlying metallic tack.

Effectiveness of Microelectrolysis Associated With Exercises Versus Exercises Alone on Pain Intensity and Disability in Individuals With Chronic Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of intratissue percutaneous microelectrolysis (IPM) in addition to shoulder exercise program on pain intensity and disability in individuals with rotator cuff tendinopathy.

Study Design: Two parallel arms, single-blind superiority randomized controlled trial. SITE: Outpatient clinic (Alcides Carneiro University Hospital).

The presence of a deep lateral femoral notch sign in ACL-injured patients is associated with a 2.7° steeper posterior tibial slope and a 19% higher frequency of lateral meniscal injuries.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to study the relationship between the presence of a deep lateral femoral notch sign (DLFNS) in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)-injured patients and a higher posterior lateral tibial slope (LPTS), a reduced meniscal bone angle (MBA), a higher LPTS/MBA ratio and a higher incidence of concomitant injuries in primary ACL tears.

Methods: A retrospective case-control study was performed in patients submitted to primary ACL reconstruction with an available preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. Patients with ACL tears and a femoral impactation with a depth ≥2 mm were assorted to the DLFNS group and patients with ACL tear and without a DLFNS to the control group.

Xylanase treatment of eucalypt kraft pulps: effect of carryover.

The influence of pulp carryover on the efficiency of the xylanase (X) treatment of industrial unbleached and oxygen-delignified eucalypt kraft pulps (A1 and A2 pulps, with kappa number (KN) values of 16 and 10, respectively), collected at the same pulp mill, was studied regarding the consumption of bleaching chemicals and pulp bleachability. Another non-oxygen-delignified eucalyptus kraft pulp of KN 13 was received after the extended cooking from a different pulp mill (pulp B). The assays were performed with both lab-washed (carryover-free) and unwashed (carryover-rich) pulps.

Letrozole administration effects on the P450aromatase expression and the reproductive parameters in male sheep ().

Letrozole comprises a non-steroid aromatase inhibitor that has been applied as a preventive for many uses, such as breast cancer prevention, treatment of hormonal dysfunction, and male infertility. Precisely in Northeast Brazil, ovine consist of the leading livestock produced, and their reproduction in captivity has been demonstrated difficult. Thus, we hypothesized whether the application of letrozole will improve male sheep reproduction.

Effect of enzymatic treatment on Eucalyptus globulus vessels passivation.

Hardwood vessel elements generate problems in industrial uncoated wood-free printing paper operation, causing vessel picking and ink refusal. These problems are mitigated using mechanical refining at the cost of paper quality. Vessel enzymatic passivation, altering its adhesion to the fiber network and reducing its hydrophobicity is a way of improving paper quality.

Green Process for Xylooligosaccharides Production using an Pulp.

Xylooligosaccharides (XOS) are oligomers with recognized and important prebiotic properties, whose consumption is associated with several health benefits, including a positive impact on the immune system. In this work, XOS were produced through a green process of enzymatic hydrolysis performed directly on an intermediate product from a pulp and paper industry, bleached pulp. Focusing on an industrial, sustainable and more economical application, two goals were defined and validated: (i) no pretreatment of the substrate and (ii) the replacement of the commonly used buffer solution as reaction medium for only water.

Split electrodes for electrical-conductivity-based tissue discrimination.

This work presents a method to minimize the inadvertent cutting of tissues in surgeries involving bone drilling. We present electrical impedance measurements as an assistive technology to image-guided surgery to achieve online guidance. Proposed concept is to identify and localize the landmarks via impedance measurements and then use this information to superimpose the estimated drilling trajectory on the offline maps obtained by pre-operative imaging.

Cellulose Nanocrystal Aqueous Colloidal Suspensions: Evidence of Density Inversion at the Isotropic-Liquid Crystal Phase Transition.

The colloidal suspensions of aqueous cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are known to form liquid crystalline (LC) systems above certain critical concentrations. From an isotropic phase, tactoid formation, growth, and sedimentation have been determined as the genesis of a high-density cholesteric phase, which, after drying, originates solid iridescent films. Herein, the coexistence of a liquid crystal upper phase and an isotropic bottom phase in CNC aqueous suspensions at the isotropic-nematic phase separation is reported.

Photocatalytic degradation of ibuprofen using titanium oxide: insights into the mechanism and preferential attack of radicals.

The present work studied ibuprofen degradation using titanium dioxide as a photocatalyst. Mechanistic aspects were presented and the preferred attack sites by the OH˙ radical on the ibuprofen molecule were detailed, based on experimental and simple theoretical-computational results. Although some previous studies show mechanistic proposals, some aspects still need to be investigated, such as the participation of 4-isobutylacetophenone in the ibuprofen degradation and the preferred regions of attack by OH˙ radicals.

Unidimensional analysis of the nursing diagnoses of situational low self-esteem and chronic low self-esteem.

Purpose: To analyze the unidimensionality of the nursing diagnoses low situational self-esteem and low chronic self-esteem proposed by NANDA-I.

Desing And Methods: Diagnostic accuracy study carried out with 180 patients with depressed mood in a psychiatric hospital in northeastern Brazil.

Findings: The analysis of the latent class considered the hypothesis of low self-esteem as a unique construct and included the indicators: Excessive seeking of reassurance, repeatedly unsuccessfulness in life events, rejection of positive feedback, insomnia, solitude, and nonassertive behavior.

SARS-CoV-2-mediated encephalitis: Role of AT2R receptors in the blood-brain barrier.

A Wearable Stethoscope for Long-Term Ambulatory Respiratory Health Monitoring.

Lung sounds acquired by stethoscopes are extensively used in diagnosing and differentiating respiratory diseases. Although an extensive know-how has been built to interpret these sounds and identify diseases associated with certain patterns, its effective use is limited to individual experience of practitioners. This user-dependency manifests itself as a factor impeding the digital transformation of this valuable diagnostic tool, which can improve patient outcomes by continuous long-term respiratory monitoring under real-life conditions.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is idiopathic, chronic and affects the gastrointestinal tract. It results from the association of genetic, environmental and immune deregulation, which culminates in the development and progression of the inflammatory process. In an attempt to reverse colonic inflammation, endogenous systems involved in intestinal physiology are studied and the cholinergic system is fundamental for this process.

Extended-spectrum β-lactamase in the rectal flora of patients undergoing transrectal prostate biopsy: a study of the prevalence in a major metropolitan hospital.

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) in patients undergoing transrectal prostate biopsy, to assess the incidence of postoperative sepsis, to correlate the development of sepsis with the presence of preoperative ESBL on rectal swabs, and to assess the adequacy of prophylactic antibiotic guidelines in the context of local ESBL prevalence.

Methods: Patients undergoing transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS)-guided biopsy at the Royal Melbourne Hospital between January 2012 and July 2016 had rectal swabs taken immediately prior to TRUS with specific cultures to identify the presence of ESBL. Patients were given a prophylactic antibiotic, 500 mg oral ciprofloxacin, 1 h before the TRUS procedure.

Diversity and Composition of Pelagic Prokaryotic and Protist Communities in a Thin Arctic Sea-Ice Regime.

One of the most prominent manifestations of climate change is the changing Arctic sea-ice regime with a reduction in the summer sea-ice extent and a shift from thicker, perennial multiyear ice towards thinner, first-year ice. These changes in the physical environment are likely to impact microbial communities, a key component of Arctic marine food webs and biogeochemical cycles. During the Norwegian young sea ICE expedition (N-ICE2015) north of Svalbard, seawater samples were collected at the surface (5 m), subsurface (20 or 50 m), and mesopelagic (250 m) depths on 9 March, 27 April, and 16 June 2015.

Aspergillus endocarditis in a paediatric patient after a cardiac surgery, associated with septic pulmonary embolism and pulmonary hypertension.

We report a rare case of pulmonary prosthetic valve endocarditis due to Aspergillus fumigatus, associated with septic pulmonary embolism and secondary pulmonary hypertension, in a 4-year-old boy with surgically corrected tetralogy of Fallot. The diagnosis and treatment of Aspergillus endocarditis remains highly challenging. The best therapeutic option for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension due to an infectious thromboembolic event is highly debatable and the results are poor.

Rosai-Dorfman disease presenting with extensive cutaneous manifestation - case report.

Rosai-Dorfman disease is a benign, self-limited, idiopathic proliferative histiocytic disorder. It was first described in 1969 by Rosai and Dorfman. In its typical form the disease is characterized by extensive cervical lymphadenopathy associated with fever, polyclonal gammopathy and leukocytosis with neutrophilia.

The molecule 2-aminoethanethiol was added to the grafted silylant agent [(3-chlorosilylpropyl)trimethoxysilane] (cpts) onto silica gel(triple bond SilCl), obtaining a surface (triple bond SilSNH(2)) and giving 0.70 mmol g(-1) of nitrogen; the surface of silica was modified with [(3-mercaptosilylpropyl)trimethoxysilane] (mpts) with surface (triple bond SilSH), giving 0.78 mmol g(-1) of sulphur.

Thioglycolic acid was immobilized onto silica gel surface using 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane as precursor silylating agent to yield silica. The amount of thioglycolic acid immobilized was 1.03 mmol per gram of silica.
