The development of new drugs based on metal complexes requires a detailed analysis of their biological endpoints. In this study, we report the genotoxic profile and influence on cell proliferation and death of the oxovanadium(IV) complex with orotic acid ([VO(CHNO)], VO(oro)). Human hepatocellular carcinoma cells (HepG2) were the most sensitive tumor cells to VO(oro), which interfered with the integrity of cell membranes and proliferative capacity in a dose-dependent manner, inducing cell death by apoptosis.

The Ag(I) and Au(I) complexes with HMP-, AgHMP and AuIHMP, were obtained by mixing an acidified H2MP aqueous solution with an equimolar aqueous solution of AgNO3 or Au(CN)2. The Au(III) complex with HMP-, AuIIIHMP, was obtained by adding an aqueous solution of K(AuCl4) to an acidified H2MP aqueous solution (1:1 molar ratio) and the final solution was acidified with HCl to pH=1.

A new water-soluble lithium salt of thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid was synthesized and characterized by chemical and spectroscopic techniques. Elemental and mass spectrometric (ESI-MS) analyses of the solid compound fit to the composition LiC(4)H(6)NSO(2). (1)H, (13)C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), [(1)H-(15)N] NMR and infrared (IR) analyses permitted to elucidate the structure of the compound.

The minimal inhibitory concentration of these three complexes was investigated in order to determine their in-vitro antimycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium avium, Mycobacterium intracellulare, Mycobacterium malmoense, and Mycobacterium kansasii. The MIC values were determined using the Microplate Alamar Blue Assay.

Elemental and thermal analyses are consistent with the formula [Ag(C(6)H(5)C(OH)COO)](n). The polymeric structure was determined by single X-ray diffraction and the two-dimensional structure is based on the bis(carboxylate-O,O') dimer [Ag-O, 2.

1H-15N 2D NMR data for S-allyl-L-cysteine (deoxyalliin) and for bis(S-allyl-L-cysteinate)palladium(II) complex are presented in this manuscript. Large upfield 15N NMR shift of the amine nitrogen in the spectrum of the complex when compared to the spectrum of the ligand shows clearly coordination of S-allyl-L-cysteine, in the anion form, to palladium(II) through the NH2 group.
