This article proposes a virtual reality (VR) system for diagnosing and rehabilitating lower limb amputees. A virtual environment and an intelligent space are the basis of the proposed solution. The target audiences are physiotherapists and doctors, and the aim is to provide a VR-based system to allow visualization and analysis of gait parameters and conformity.

Postictal psychosis (PIP) is one of the most common types of psychosis in epileptic patients. By virtue of the paucity of research on PIP, its pathophysiology remains not completely understood. Our case report describes a clinical picture of PIP, characterized by pleomorphic features, with neither Schneider's firstrank symptoms nor negative symptoms of schizophrenia, in a longstanding epileptic female patient with a history of nonadherence to antiepileptic treatment and poorly controlled seizures.

Public policy and academic debates regarding pandemic control strategies note disease-economy trade-offs, often prioritizing one outcome over the other. Using a calibrated, coupled epi-economic model of individual behavior embedded within the broader economy during a novel epidemic, we show that targeted isolation strategies can avert up to 91% of economic losses relative to voluntary isolation strategies. Unlike widely-used blanket lockdowns, economic savings of targeted isolation do not impose additional disease burdens, avoiding disease-economy trade-offs.

The search for gold-standard materials for bone regeneration is still a challenge in reconstruction surgery. The ratio between hydroxyapatite (HAp) and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) in biphasic calcium phosphate ceramics (BCPs) is one of the most important factors in osteoinduction promotion and controlled biodegradability, configurating what is currently considered as a possible gold standard material for bone substitution in reconstructive surgery. Exploring the natural genesis of the HAp and β-TCP phases in fishbones during their postnatal growth, this study developed a biphasic bioceramic obtained from the calcination of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) bones as a function of their ages.

Objective: To evaluate the early stages of the setting process of chemically activated restorative glass-ionomer cements (GICs).

Material And Methods: Five GICs were evaluated ( = 5): Equia Forte (GC), Equia Forte HT (GC), Ketac Universal (3M ESPE), Maxxion R (FGM) and Riva Self Cure (SDI) by Thermography, Fourier Transform Infrared Attenuated Total Reflectance Spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR) and Gillmore needle indentation mechanical testing. The FTIR-ATR spectra showed the formation of metal carboxylates within the cements and enabled the stabilization time (ST) to be determined and the thermographic camera measured the temperature field images in the sample.

In this paper, a broad combined orange-red emission from Eu²⁺- and Eu³⁺-doped low-silica calcium aluminosilicate (LSCAS) glass is reported. Spectroscopic results demonstrate that it is possible to tune the emission wavelength by changing the excitation wavelength in the UV-Vis region. The color coordinates for the emission spectra were calculated, and using the Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage 1931 and 1976 chromatic diagrams, it is possible to note that they are dependent on the excitation wavelength.

We apply thermal-lens (TL) spectrometry to measure the angular dependence of the TL effect on colquiriite single crystals. The experiments were performed with LiSrAlF(6) and LiSrGaF(6) using a two-beam mode-mismatched configuration. The results show that it is possible to minimize the TL effect by selecting the appropriate crystal orientation.

Thermal lens spectroscopy is a highly sensitive and versatile photothermal technique for material analysis, providing optical and thermal properties. To use less expensive multimode non-Gaussian lasers for quantitative analysis of low-absorption materials, this Letter presents a theoretical model for time-resolved mode-mismatched thermal lens spectroscopy induced by a cw laser with a top-hat profile. The temperature profile in a sample was calculated, and the intensity of the probe beam center at the detector plane was also derived using the Fresnel diffraction theory.
