P2X7 is an ATP-activated purinergic receptor implicated in pro-inflammatory responses. It is associated with the development of several diseases, including inflammatory and neurodegenerative conditions. Although several P2X7 receptor antagonists have recently been reported in the literature, none of them is approved for clinical use.

The metabolism of mycotoxins via the mercapturate metabolic pathway was shown, in general, to lead to their detoxication. Mercapturic acids thus formed (S-substitued-N-acetyl-l-cysteines) may be accumulated in the kidney and either excreted in the urine or desacetylated by Acylase 1 (ACY1) to yield cysteine S-conjugates.

The application of the Hammett equation considering the values of the absorption frequency of carbonyl group, nu(C=O,) using the electronic constants sigma, sigma(I), sigma(R), I and R leads to meaningful correlation. The nature and the contribution of substituent group electronic effects on the polarity of the carbonyl group was also analyzed.
