Lectins are proteins, or glycoproteins, capable of reversibly binding to specific mono- or oligosaccharides via a noncatalytic domain. The Diocleinae subtribe presents lectins with high structural similarity, but different effects based on biological activity assays. This variability results from small structural differences.
