Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapies have transformed the treatment of retinal diseases. However, VEGF signaling is only one component of the complex, multifactorial pathophysiology of retinal diseases, and many patients have residual disease activity despite ongoing anti-VEGF treatment. The angiopoietin/tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin and epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (Ang/Tie2) signaling pathway is critical to endothelial cell homeostasis, survival, integrity, and vascular stability.

Methods: In this cross-sectional observational study, we analyzed 156 peripheral blood xenobiotic features in a cohort of 46 nAMD patients stratified by choroidal neovascularization (CNV) control under anti-VEGF IVT. We employed Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for measurement and leveraged an AI-driven iterative Random Forests (iRF) approach for robust pattern recognition and feature selection, aligning molecular profiles with clinical phenotypes.
Purpose: We aimed to determine the impact of artificial sweeteners (AS), especially saccharin, on the progression and treatment efficacy of patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) under anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF-A) treatment.
Methods: In a cross-sectional study involving 46 patients with nAMD undergoing intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy, 6 AS metabolites were detected in peripheral blood using liquid chromatography - tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Disease features were statistically tested against these metabolite levels.
: To report on the outcome of intravitreal brolucizumab compared to aflibercept in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME). : Prospective, observational, study in 35 eyes of 24 patients with a loading dose of five injections of 6 mg brolucizumab every 6 weeks (q6w, treatment-naïve eyes) or a minimum of two injections of brolucizumab q6w after the switch (recalcitrant DME eyes), followed by a treat and extend (T&E) regimen. Purpose: Visual function is a complex process in which external visual stimuli are interpreted. Patients with retinal diseases and prolonged follow-up times may experience changes in their visual function that are not detected by the standard visual acuity measure, as they are a result of other alterations in visual function. With the advancement of different methods to evaluate visual function, additional measurements have become available, and further standardization suggests that some methods may be promising for use in clinical trials or routine clinical practice.

Purpose: The study aims to evaluate changes in contrast sensitivity (CS) during therapy with intravitreal vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME).
Methods: Prospective, uncontrolled, multicenter study on patients with neovascular AMD or DME who underwent intravitreal injection therapy with Ranibizumab, Aflibercept, or Bevacizumab was conducted. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and CS measured by Mars Letter Contrast Sensitivity Test (MLCS) and Freiburg Visual Acuity and Contrast Test (FrACT) in logCS were evaluated before 3 consecutive VEGF inhibitor injections, which followed the pro renata regimen in treatment-naïve and pretreated eyes with a maximum of 9 injections.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy and safety of ultrathin Descemet stripping (automated) endothelial keratoplasty (UT-DS(A)EK) versus Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) for the treatment of Fuchs endothelial dystrophy (FED) and bullous keratopathy (BK).
Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
Methods: Literature containing DMEK and UT-DSAEK were searched in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, PubMed, EMBASE, LILACS, and through manual reference searching.
Background: Knowledge about artifacts in optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is important to avoid misinterpretations. An overview of possible artifacts in posterior uveitis provides important information for interpretations. Methods: In this monocentric prospective study, OCTA images from a total of 102 eyes of 54 patients with posterior uveitis, and an age-matched control group including 34 healthy subjects (67 eyes), were evaluated (day 0, month 3, month 6).

Design: Retrospective, single-center, case study.
Participants: We reviewed 225 patients with iris melanoma who were consecutively treated with proton beam therapy at our institution between 1998 and 2020.
Introduction: Proton beam therapy is an established primary treatment for patients with nonmetastasized uveal melanoma. Adjuvant local interventions, like intravitreal injections or surgery, were shown to improve long-term eye preservation; however, their impact on the patient's quality of life (QOL) remains unknown.
Methods: In a post-radiotherapeutic follow-up, we prospectively collected data on QOL, visual acuity, and interventional adjuvant procedures.
Purpose: To report a case with unusual initial manifestation of uveal melanoma in a 46-year-old adult.
Observations: A 46-year-old man demonstrated a mid-peripheral temporal partially hyperpigmented lesion in his left eye. Initial clinical appearance as well as multimodal imaging approaches were similar to a chorioretinitic disease.
Background: To report on the short-term outcome of intravitreal brolucizumab in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).
Methods: This is a prospective, interventional, monocentric study on 10 eyes of 10 patients with a treatment-naïve neovascular AMD. Patients were treated according to the HAWK and HARRIER trials.
