- Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS) is a chronic condition that poses a 1% yearly risk of developing into a more serious disease, but its causes are still unclear.
- A previous hypothesis suggested that treating Helicobacter pylori infections might help improve MGUS in some patients.
- In this study involving 30 MGUS patients, a 7-day antibiotic treatment successfully eradicated H. pylori, but the level of the monoclonal component did not change in those who were cured of the infection.
