Spontaneous intraparenchymal hemorrhage (IPH) is relatively common and has a very important impact on clinical outcomes, motor and functional abilities and it may affect different cognitive domains. A 60-year-old male was admitted in post-acute phase, at Istituti Clinici Scientifici Maugeri IRCCS, to undertake neuro-motor treatment for a period of 4 months. The patient was affected by IPH.

Design: Forty patients with TBI were randomly assigned to 15 days of intravenous BCAA supplementation (19.6g/d) (n=20) or an isonitrogenous placebo (n=20).

Objective: To investigate whether levels of plasma tyrosine and tryptophan, precursors of brain catecholamine and serotonin neurotransmitters, respectively, and other essential amino acids (EAA) may return to normal in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) after 2 months in a hospital rehabilitation center.
Design: Peripheral plasma concentrations of tyrosine, tryptophan, and other EAAs in subjects with severe TBI, both at admission (44+/-11d postinjury) and at discharge from the center (110+/-15d after acute event) were compared with concentrations in control subjects.
Setting: Tertiary care rehabilitation setting in Italy.
Neurolinguistic studies have provided important evidence regarding the organization of lexical representations and the structure of underlying conceptual knowledge; in particular, it has been shown that the retrieval of verbs and nouns can be damaged selectively. Dissociated lexical damage is proof of an independent mental organization of lexical representations and/or of the underlying processes. The aim of the present study is to estimate the rate of dissociated impairments for nouns and verbs on a large sample of mild to moderate aphasic patients and to investigate the mechanisms underlying such phenomena.
