Article Synopsis
- - Heavy metal concentrations were analyzed in nearshore marine sediments and fish tissue in Trinidad, revealing that Sea Lots had the highest levels of aluminum (Al), iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) compared to Point Lisas and Caroni.
- - Metal concentrations in fish from Point Lisas and Caroni correlated significantly with sediment metal levels, indicating that sediment contamination directly affects fish tissue concentrations.
- - Only zinc (Zn), mercury (Hg), and copper (Cu) showed a bioaccumulation factor greater than one, indicating that these metals have a notable potential for bioaccumulation in marine organisms.

Mar Pollut Bull
June 2011
Article Synopsis
- Concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) were measured in marine sediments at three sites in Trinidad: Sea Lots, Caroni Lagoon National Park, and Manzanilla on the east coast.
- Sea Lots showed significantly higher levels of PCBs (62-601 ng/g) and OCPs (44.5-145 ng/g) compared to Caroni (PCBs: 13 ng/g, OCPs: 13.1 ng/g) and Manzanilla (PCBs: 8 ng/g, OCPs: 23.8 ng/g).
- The PCB and OCP levels at Sea Lots exceeded Canadian sediment
