Fracture healing is a complex process in which mechanical forces are essential for the regeneration of bone tissue. Mechanical loading can induce osteogenesis through the process of mechanotransduction. Current data on how mechanical loading stimulates fracture healing in weight-bearing long bones are presented.

Background: Knee arthrodesis with external fixation (XF) is a possible salvage procedure for infected total knee arthroplasties (TKA). We report the outcome in 10 patients who underwent arthrodesis with the Sheffield Ring Fixator.

Patients And Methods: The patients had primary arthrosis in 8 cases; 2 cases were due to rheumatoid arthritis and sclerodermia.

A case of extraarticular localised pigmented villonodular synovitis (LPVS) in the knee is described. LPVS was misinterpreted clinically and with magnetic resonance imaging as infrapatellar bursitis. Treatment was with partial arthroscopic synovectomy and total excision.

The anaerobic bacterium, Leptotrichia buccalis (Lb), belongs to the normal oral flora of humans and is seldom found in clinically significant specimens. However, on rare occasions, Lb has been isolated from blood cultures from patients with lesions of the oral mucosa, in particular from patients with neutropenia. Over a period of 6 months, Lb was isolated from blood cultures in our laboratory from 2 immunocompetent patients.
