Background and purpose - Combining components from different manufacturers in total hip arthroplasty (THA) is common practice worldwide. We determined the proportion of THAs used in the Netherlands that consist of components from different manufacturers, and compared the revision rates of these mixed THAs with those of non-mixed THAs. Patients and methods - Data on primary and revision hip arthroplasty are recorded in the LROI, the nationwide population-based arthroplasty register in the Netherlands.

The aim of this study was to document and evaluate the early results of a nationwide series of total ankle replacements (TARs) performed using second- and third-generation implants.
Methods: Records of total ankle replacements performed between February 2000 and November 2005 were retrieved from the New Zealand National Joint Registry and retrospectively reviewed at a mean of 28 months after the primary procedure.
The aim of this study was to develop an accurate method for correction of magnification of pelvic x-rays to enhance accuracy of hip surgery planning. All investigated methods aim at estimating the anteroposterior location of the hip joint in supine position to correctly position a reference object for correction of magnification. An existing method-which is currently being used in clinical practice in our clinics-is based on estimating the position of the hip joint by palpation of the greater trochanter.
