Objectives: Patients presenting with suspected ST segment elevation myocardial infarction frequently have symptoms in addition to chest pain, including dyspnea, nausea or vomiting, diaphoresis, and lightheadedness or syncope. These symptoms are often regarded as supporting the diagnosis of infarction. We sought to determine the prevalence of the non-chest pain symptoms among patients who were confirmed as having a critically diseased coronary vessel as opposed to those with no angiographic culprit lesion.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a non-traumatic spontaneous separation of a coronary wall that can present as acute myocardial infarction. Pregnant females are already at a considerably higher risk of acute myocardial infarction when compared to non-pregnant women of child-bearing age, and dissection explains the majority of these cases. Here, we present a 36-year-old female at 36-weeks gestation who experienced ventricular fibrillation arrest after ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) secondary to spontaneous dissection of the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery.

Anatomical repair of distal biceps tendon ruptures has been shown to restore elbow supination and flexion strength. Here, we report the outcomes of distal biceps tendon reattachment using the ToggleLoc fixation device with ZipLoop technology through a single incision. This was a retrospective study of 38 patients with a mean age of 49.

Training could be a lever for improving the quality of care of residents with dementia in nursing homes by changing social representations. Beyond a simple assessment of acquired knowledge, a change of social representations could be indicative of a true appropriation of the content of the training. A study was carried out to assess the impact of training on nursing home caregivers' representations of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Background Volar plating for acute distal radius fractures (DRF) in the elderly has been recommended. Some studies have suggested that open reduction with internal fixation (ORIF) in this situation results in frequent complications. Our purposes were to provide a definition of irreparable DRF in independent elderly patients and to review the results of a preliminary retrospective series of wrist hemiarthroplasty (WHA) in this patient population.

Background Open reduction with internal fixation (ORIF) is currently the gold standard treatment of acute perilunate injuries (PLIs). Less invasive surgery, including arthroscopic techniques, has recently emerged in the hope that results similar to those of ORIF could be obtained with less tissue disturbance. Our purpose was to review retrospectively a series of selected PLIs treated with arthroscopic assistance over the past 10 years.
